Indibus - History of the colony of Indibus 1700 -1962
The Aderan explorers Artrius Mordae and Gratio Demonseus discovered the continent of Indibus in 1539. Being isolated from the rest of the world, Acroticus had made first contact with the native population. At the time, the massive continent was split into ten tribes, each claiming different portions of the continent and occasionally warring against one another. The continent was largely barren, and the Aderans saw little reason to tinvade the continent, instead opting to found the port city of Naerys in Indibus's southern islands.
By 1605, the port at Naerys had become a bustling center of trade for the Acrotician Empire, as the Indibians had much to trade. While arable land was rare, the continent was rich in minerals, and, of particular interest for the Aderans, gemstones. Acrotician merchants traded food and manufactured goods for the gemstones, and eventually set up their own mining operations on the continent proper. Resistance by the Indibians lead to an invasion of Acrotician troops in 1691, beginning the War of Gunge. The war ended in 1700 with the effective subjugation of the continent's separate tribes.
While the continent of Indibus quickly became a profit center for the Acrotician Empire, very few Acrotician citizens moved there. Instead, most of the Acrotician efforts in Indibus were based on resource extraction. As such, the Indibiian natives often revolted against Acroticus. Attacks on the trains that travelled from the center of the continent to the southern ports were common, and large numbers of Acrotician troops were needed to maintain order.
In the 1950s, this violence came to a climax. Numerous rebel groups across the country united in the Alliance of Free Peoples of Indibus (AFPI). After preceding decades of violence, and the withdrawal of Acrotician troops from a number of cities in the late 1940s, the AFPI was able to negotiate with the Acrotician government. The colony was officially made independent in 1961, along with a number of other Acrotician colonies.
