Administrative Divisions of Agausia (UPDATE IN PROGRESS)
The Republic of Agausia's administration is relatively centralized and administrative subdivisions are therefore fairly simplified. According to the Constitution of Agausia, its territory is organized administratively into 20 regions (Agausian: Regioni) and 1 Capital City.
Each Region is headed by a Governor who acts as an executive in each region. Each region is then broken down into districts (Űbani). The settlements of each region/district are classified as either a city, town, village, or commune.
10,000+ : city status
2,501 -9999 : town status
0 - 2,500 : village status
There are 52 cities, 134 towns, and 469 villages in Agausia. There are also 96 Communes.
Each city will have a mayor. Since the 2003 constitution, towns and villages do not have their own mayor, but instead a Commune Administrator (Ḱomuna Administ́rat́ori).
Governors are elected on the last Saturday in August for a term of two years, with no direct term limits. The last elections were held in 2022. The next elections will be held on 31 August 2024.
Mayors are elected on the last Saturday in August for a term of two year, with no direct term limits. The last elections were held in 2022. The next elections will be held on 31 August 2024.
Both positions serve a two-year term, with no direct term limits, and both offices are elected via a first-past-the-post voting system.
Every region, excluding the Capital City of Tamara, is represented by a Regional Council. The number of councilors is appointed based proportionally by each district's population. The constitution mandates that each regional council have at least 5, but no more than 99 representatives. Regional Council's function similarly to that of the Nation's Parliament, except for that the Regional Councils can be overruled by the national parliament.
While functioning similarly to the national parliament, regional councils have far fewer powers and any resolution passed by regional councils can be overturned by a majority in the national parliament. The current system governing regional councils and commune administrator was created as a result of the passage of the 2003 Agausian constitution.
Communes are towns and villages grouped geographically together by population. They are administered by commune administrators who report directly to the regional councils and regional governors. Cities do not have administrators as they are legislated by mayors.
Local elections (to elect Commune Administrators, Commune Assembly and City Councilors) were last held on 27 November 2021. The next elections will be held on 25 November 2023.
