The Dichromatic Mechanism of August is a gargantuan, efficient nation, notable for its otherworldly petting zoo, compulsory gun ownership, and complete absence of social welfare. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic, humorless population of 11.454 billion Augustins live in a state of perpetual fear, as a complete breakdown of social order has led to the rise of order through biker gangs.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, corrupt, liberal, pro-business, outspoken individuals is effectively ruled by the Department of Industry, although Education and Public Transport are also considered important, while Law & Order and Environment aren't funded at all. Income tax is unheard of.

The frighteningly efficient Augustin economy, worth a remarkable 2,661 trillion senses a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is broadly diversified and led by the Retail industry, with major contributions from Gambling, Information Technology, and Soda Sales. Average income is an amazing 232,350 senses, but there is a vast disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 1,602,502 per year while the poor average 11,945, a ratio of 134 to 1.

Enemy navies sail within bombardment range of major coastal cities with impunity, passengers often cause a stink on public transport, history textbook pages are used as impromptu tissues by distraught students, and the first test of a good kindergartener is the quality of the sponge-baths they give. Crime, especially youth-related, is so common that it is unusual to encounter someone following the law, perhaps because of the country's complete lack of prisons. August's national animal is the leopard, which is also the nation's favorite main course.

August is ranked 205,351st in the world and 225th in Cape of Good Hope for Largest Welfare Programs, scoring -51.77 on the Safety Net Mesh Density Rating.
