The Democratic Republic of Enou is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by Will Johnson with an even hand, and remarkable for its ubiquitous missile silos, digital currency, and compulsory military service. The hard-nosed, hard-working, humorless population of 3.252 billion Enouans have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The medium-sized, corrupt government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Administration, and Education. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Rosrce. The average income tax rate is 77.5%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Enouan economy, worth 530 trillion books a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized, fairly diversified black market in Information Technology, Arms Manufacturing, Tourism, and Automobile Manufacturing. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an impressive 163,178 books, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The military recognizes no difference between male and female soldiers, the Ministry of Health has reported a sharp increase in the incidence of delayed menopause, real chickens replace rooster weather vanes on inner-city rooftop gardens, and NationStates is now a popular brand of laxatives despite Max Barry's protests. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Enou's national animal is the emu, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its national religion is Johnsonism.

Enou is ranked 207,659th in the world and 8,546th in The East Pacific for Lowest Overall Tax Burden, scoring -137.17 on the Hayek Index.
