Football in Greater Saint-Paul

Football, or as some insist in calling it, “soccer”, is a important cultural element in Greater Saint-Paul. Being a nation that has a strong Brazilian heritage, football is the most iconic sport in the country. Beloved by the citizens, each province has a championship based on rushes points. There are also two national cups, one in the elimination style and one which centers on the same rules as the provincial cups. The winner of the latter and the top 4 of the former are selected to participate in international competitions. Each major team has a legion of fanatic fans, and street fights have been increasingly common because of this, but all have been controlled with success. The national team is also adored by the population. It even makes two fans of rival teams truce out, which can be quite rare. The cups are as follows:

•Copa Provincial de São Paulo “Paulistão” (Saint Paul Provincial Cup)

•Copa Provincial de Rio de Janeiro “Carioca” (Rio de Janeiro Provincial Cup)

•Copa Provincial de Minas Gerais “Mineirão” (you got the template)

•Copa Provincial de Espírito Santo “Copa ES”

•Copa Provincial de Novos Balcãs “Ziemeļu čempionāts, Põhja meistrivõistlused or Nordmesterskabet“

•Grande Paulistão (National Championship based on points)

•Copa de Grande São-Paulo (National championship based on elimination)
