The Trees of Green Bower is a gargantuan, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by John Muir's head with a fair hand, and renowned for its rum-swilling pirates, smutty television, and complete lack of prisons. The compassionate, democratic, cheerful population of 10.883 billion Trees are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The enormous, liberal, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Education, Administration, and Environment. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Treefort. The average income tax rate is 90.8%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The all-consuming a Tree economy, worth a remarkable 1,405 trillion chloroplasts a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized, quite specialized black market in Information Technology, Soda Sales, Book Publishing, and Trout Farming. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an impressive 129,171 chloroplasts, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

State dairy cow's milk is a shear-thickening fluid that can stop small-caliber bullets, it is believed that belligerence is a passing phase foreign leaders will soon outgrow, board shorts have replaced board rooms, and a PhD just ain't what it used to be. Crime, especially youth-related, is a serious problem, perhaps because of the country's complete lack of prisons. Green Bower's national animal is the little fuzzy critter, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is Secular Humanism.

Green Bower is ranked 266,601st in the world and 10,748th in Osiris for Lowest Crime Rates, with 40.07 law-abiding acts per hour.
