The Grand Duchy of Kharkov is a gargantuan, socially progressive nation, ruled by Maochao with a fair hand, and notable for its museums and concert halls, frequent executions, and daily referendums. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic, cheerful population of 36.671 billion Kharkovites enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.

The tiny, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Education, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 2.0%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The large but stagnant Kharkovian economy, worth 610 trillion gold pieces a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Information Technology, Book Publishing, and Uranium Mining. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is 16,634 gold pieces, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.1 times as much as the poorest.

The government struggles to keep up with the endless list of petrol disasters, one-man canoes fitted with the latest tracking technology leave no room for one man, anti-government political posters adorn every building like wallpaper, and populations of two-headed Golden Eagles have been found around recently-uncovered archaeological sites. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Kharkov's national animal is the Golden Eagle, which is also the nation's favorite main course.

Kharkov is ranked 80,196th in the world and 1st in Future Panthalassa for Largest Agricultural Sector, scoring 923.75 on the Mu-Bah-Daggs Productivity Index.
