The Republic of New Shizal is a massive, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its irreverence towards religion and absence of drug laws. The hard-working, democratic population of 1.131 billion Shizalians hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

The relatively small, liberal, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Healthcare, Welfare, and Education. The average income tax rate is 11.5%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The New Shizalian economy, worth 64.3 trillion Soras a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Tourism industry, with significant contributions from Information Technology, Basket Weaving, and Book Publishing. Average income is 56,824 Soras, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Adverts depict men giving birth while cursing the women who got them into trouble and the tenet of free speech is held dear. Crime is almost non-existent. New Shizal's national animal is the Dove, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies.

New Shizal is ranked 110,097th in the world and 16th in Union of Allied States for Most Primitive, scoring -38.73 on the Scary Big Number Scale.
