The People's Republic of Palacoufia is a very large, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its state-planned economy, punitive income tax rates, and suspicion of poets. The hard-nosed, cynical population of 180 million Palacoufians are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The enormous, corrupt, moralistic, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, and Defense. The average income tax rate is 79.5%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but underdeveloped Palacoufian economy, worth 7.17 trillion palacs a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is highly specialized, is mostly made up of the Trout Farming industry, with significant contributions from Beef-Based Agriculture, Information Technology, and Basket Weaving. Average income is 39,836 palacs, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Clergy do their best to cover up their old tattoos, flatulent people are left to die of cancer at the end of hospital waiting lists, babysitters are a thing of the past, and workers tend to schedule naps during all-hands meetings. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Palacoufia's national animal is the orca, which frolics freely in the nation's sparkling oceans.

Palacoufia is ranked 27,223rd in the world and 251st in 10000 Islands for Most Advanced Law Enforcement, scoring 3,512.66 on the Orwell Orderliness Index.
