Military Overview

Our two states, Michigan and Ohio, share a common military, and each maintains an elite unit of its own.

Our standing army consists of just over 500 men, making up six infantry companies and associated support personnel. In addition, we have a militia of about 2,500 men, although they're generally suitable only for defensive operations, and we can't keep them deployed for long without damage to our economy.

Michigan's elite unit is the Michigan Guard Infantry (Light), a pre-Final War company equipped with Old Tech. They're a powerful and mobile fighting force, but we can't produce their equipment, so we depend on salvage and repair to keep them in the field.

By contrast, the Ohio Air Guard is a tiny, weak force, suitable only for scouting and harassment. However, we've successfully re-invented airplanes using Great Knowledge, so we expect the Air Guard will grow over time.

Supporting the military consumes about 6% of our GDP, so it is a major expense for us. However, until such time as the United States Government is restored, we see no other alternative.
