The Empire of Sciency Advancement is a gargantuan, efficient nation, ruled by Keftan with a fair hand, and renowned for its smutty television, daily referendums, and state-planned economy. The hard-nosed, democratic, humorless population of 10.141 billion Sciency Advances hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

The relatively small, corrupt, liberal government juggles the competing demands of Education, Administration, and Industry. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Scientific Progress. The average income tax rate is 60.5%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Sciency economy, worth a remarkable 3,005 trillion Credits a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is an enormous, deeply entrenched, broadly diversified black market in Information Technology, Tourism, Arms Manufacturing, and Retail. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an amazing 296,347 Credits, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Public footpaths are being slowly eroded by the burgeoning number of ramblers, five-year-olds who refuse to line up on command get gold stars, drill sergeants yell in the ears of bespectacled nerds in cybermilitary "reboot camps", and foreign despots proudly bandstand on Sciency airwaves. Crime, especially youth-related, is all-pervasive, perhaps because of the country's complete lack of prisons. Sciency Advancement's national animal is the Dogoo, which is also the nation's favorite main course.

Sciency Advancement is ranked 8,533rd in the world and 414th in The North Pacific for Largest Publishing Industry, scoring 12,556.2 on the Bella Potter Productivity e-Index.
