The Federation of Sharkingo is a huge, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, lack of airports, and prohibition of alcohol. The democratic population of 449 million Sharkingoans are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The relatively small government juggles the competing demands of Administration, Education, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 19.1%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but inefficient Sharkingoan economy, worth 20.3 trillion tiburons a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Uranium Mining industry, with major contributions from Basket Weaving, Book Publishing, and Woodchip Exports. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 45,289 tiburons, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.2 times as much as the poorest.

A video of Leader wearing shock-blue face paint and smashing an electric guitar in front of a frenzied crowd is on endless repeat on the nightly news, all government facilities are built in the subterranean citadel of Sharkingo City, former bars are desperately trying to re-brand themselves as cafés, and gambling is outlawed. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Sharkingo's national animal is the shark, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to heavy metals seepage into national waterways.

Sharkingo is ranked 156,777th in the world and 8,226th in The North Pacific for Most Developed, scoring 42.52 on the Human Development Index.
