The Holy Empire of Tanshia is a huge, cultured nation, renowned for its ubiquitous missile silos, pith helmet sales, and absence of drug laws. The hard-nosed, cynical population of 445 million Tanshians are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The large, corrupt, well-organized government prioritizes Defense, although Law & Order and Administration are also considered important, while International Aid isn't funded at all. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of The Citadel. The average income tax rate is 65.0%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but underdeveloped Tanshian economy, worth 22.6 trillion Sels a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized black market in Arms Manufacturing, Uranium Mining, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Information Technology. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 50,846 Sels, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Eau de Trashcan has become a wildly popular perfume, the fate of the world literally rests on Leader's fingers, populations of two-headed Ravens have been found around recently-uncovered archaeological sites, and victims of crime are viewed as less trustworthy than politicians. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Tanshia's national animal is the Raven, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies.

Tanshia is ranked 141,413th in the world and 6,449th in Lazarus for Most Developed, scoring 46.27 on the Human Development Index.
