The Nomadic Peoples of The Hector is a gargantuan, safe nation, notable for its pith helmet sales, public floggings, and vat-grown people. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical, humorless population of 11.308 billion Hectorians are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

The large, corrupt, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defense, and Administration. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Perth. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 58.5%.

The all-consuming Hectorian economy, worth 920 trillion patches a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with significant contributions from Retail, Book Publishing, and Woodchip Exports. Black market activity is frequent. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 81,387 patches, but there is a significant disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 234,352 per year while the poor average 22,450, a ratio of 10.4 to 1.

Billions of patches are spent to take high-quality photos of the Dog Nebula, lawyers spend as much time preparing their make-up as they do their briefs, proprietary charger leads are now a pain for electric cars as well as cellphones, and drawing men's naughty bits isn't considered to be art. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Hector's national animal is the dog, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its national religion is Orthodox Christianity.

The Hector is ranked 161,386th in the world and 2nd in Lost Horizon for Largest Basket Weaving Sector, scoring 1,597.4 on the Hickory Productivity Index.
