Soldiers

" To have a perfect soldier, you must make the perfect soldier " - (Charles Random, 1918)

(note: this is only infantry Standard Forces, more Elite troops are given more rigorous training, while officers are more academic focused. Also, different people specialize in different M.O.S’s, and training/equipment may be different as a result.)

Training

At the age of 16. A Random boy or girl becomes conscripted into the Army, and for the next 18 weeks, they will be molded and sculpted into a soldier. They have spent a lot of their lives dedicated to becoming a soldier, as the education system, and Boy/Girl Scouts are heavily focused on obedience, quickthinking, teamwork, having a frick ton of endurance and persistence (and of course extreme patriotism). Military schools are also optional for citizens age 13-16.

The army will accept any human to become a combat personnel. As long as they don't have a extensive criminal record, or a major disability. They are then sent to one of the dozens training bases. As soon as they reach their base, they are immediately yelled at and ordered by Drill Sergeants. The point is to establish a clear sense command in the young recruits, and to hopefully toughen up the cadets. An entire class of recruits is the size of a company (around 100), each company has 5 platoons. Each platoon has a Drill Sergeant, while the Senior Drill Sergeant leads the platoon DS’s and the company. Mistakes are not taken lightly, even simple mistakes like mopping the wrong side of a room is often punished with exercises. (Also do not accidentally call a Drill Sergeant a Drill Instructor and vice versa.)

The first part of basic training is 6 weeks long, and is mostly mental. Students are taught daily routines, such as morning duties, maintaining your weapons, and organizing your space and belongings. Psychologically, cadets are rigorously trained to obey the commands of their superiors. However, free thinking is also encouraged in special situations where it could help in a battle. Their education is mostly taught here. The command structure, organization, weapons, tactics, communications, responses to certain situations, what type of technologies the Army uses, and much more. Reaction is taught to Cadets, they are taught to react quickly and intelligently to a situation, and to try to predict what will happen next. Teamwork is a vital aspect used in the military. Cadets are taught to work effectively with their fire team, groups, and platoon; and are also taught to work well with other Randomians. Patriotism is ingrained into the minds of our soldiers, they are taught to love Socialism, and to love, fight, and die for the NUSRE.

At the end of their first part of training, Cadets are promoted to Recruits. Here is the most labourous part of training, and young recruits will lead physically pushes to their limits. On week 7, the second part of their training start. This part is mostly physical. Physical Fitness Tests, or PT is an essential part of keep a soldier in tip top shape. PT tests will be increased 3x it was in the first part of basic training. Recruits are expected to wake up in 4 in the morning, due their morning duties, and complete PT by 5:30 every day. Completing a 600m in 3.5 minuets, followed by a 2.5 km jog, 75 push-ups, sit-ups, and crunches are all expected in PT every single day. Every week the soldier go on a 10 km March with equipment. Recruits are taught how to swim, climb up ropes, scale small walls, and jump extraordinarily high. In week 8, health, biological, and chemical training begin. Recruits learn how to perform CPR, stop bleeding, heal a wound, how to administer medicine, and how to use biofoam. Soldiers are put through tear gas to get them accustomed to light chemical warfare. At the end of this, soldiers are given their gas masks. Week 9 is the start of combat training. Recruits focus on firing their rifles, side arms, and grenades, and are trained to increase their accuracy. Knifes and hand to hand combat are taught. Martial arts forms and other fighting techniques are taught.

Week 12 is that start of endurance training. Recruits are sent to areas with little infrastructure and with little resources other then their gear, first they are given day-objectives with their teammates, then groupmates, then squadmates, then platoon, then the entire company. The purpose of these are to promote teamwork and help inspire leadership. It also teaches recruits to use non-armour equipment incase the armour fails. Obstacles courses are used during endurance training. Recruits are trained and tested on climbing, vaulting, jumping, crawling, swinging, descending, moving in mud, navigating terrain/defenses, and swimming. All of these courses are timed, and on rare occasion have stealth as a factor. Finally on week 15, a recruit is sent alone to a remote and most hazardous part of the planets natural habitat (it can be Jungles, Deserts, Tundras, and High Mountains), and must survive with no equipment and alone at the start for 72 hours. The previous 4 days are spent preparing for the “Lost Course”. This course will get an army soldier to operate perfectly fine on its own, and increase its endurance and will. Week 16 is “live training” in V.R simulated combat zones such as urban, suburban, plains, forests, deserts, tundras, mountains and many more. Competitions can also take place between platoons. Week 17 is the “resting week”, PT and physical activity is lighten, this will give recruits time to rest for “Grave Week”.

On week 18, Grave Week begins. Physical training is taken to its max. PT is 5 times what it was during the mental stage. Recruits are often pushed to their peak physical limits and physiological limits. On the final 64 hours of Grave Week is known as the “Graveyard”. Recruits will do intense physical activity with little food, water, and sleep. Recruits will often have a large meal the night before the training, and extra sleep. They will have to do 10x mental PT approximately 3 times during the whole 64 hour period. Recruits will hike around 10km to multiple stations in equipment and rucksacks that will way up to 45 kg (almost 100 pounds). Each station has a unique physical activity that the young citizens have learned sometime in the last 17.5 weeks of training. During the whole ordeal, the recruits are given meager rations of food and water twice a day, and around 2-3 hours of sleep per night. At the end of the Graveyard, recruits will often be in pain and have their muscles sore. Their limits have been broken and raised far above their previous ones. They have been promoted to an official rank of Private.

At the end of their training. Recruits graduate basic training, and become privates. They attend a ceremony where their families get to see them for the first time since they were conscripted. After this, their final part of training commences. The newly minted Privates are genetically Augmented. Their become larger, faster, stronger, more intelligent, more durable, more agile, shorter reaction times, and become extremely passionate to the Empire. A few months later, they receive Generation II Augmentations. They finally become true soldiers of the Random Empire, and are given their armour. Gen II Augmentations make the privates basically super soldiers in the eyes of civilians, they become giant, efficient, brutal killing machines.

(note: if you fail basic training, you are required to do it 3 more times until you are honorably discharged, if you failed on purpose you are dishonorablely discharged.)

Augmentation

Augmentation is the procedure for the physical and genetic changes to the soldier’s bodies to enhance their performance. While most soldiers in the Army do not receive any physical changes (like new organs), all soldiers receive genetic changes. This segment of the factbook will describe generation I and gen II augmentations for Standard Infantry Forces.

Armour

This is the main battle armour used by second generation Standard frontline soldiers of the Random Army. It is made mostly of G-T armour, and weights around 75 kgs. All armour plates have an extra 5 millimeters of Heavily Reinforced G-T on top with around 1-1.5 centimeters of space in between this and the main plate. Heavy armour ensures that most metallic rounds that hits the armour turns into a spray of shrapnel that will deal significantly less damage to the main armour. A material similar to aerogel is used to fill the space in between the armour to provide more support and to slightly reduce the speed of the shrapnel.

Under all the armour of every soldier is a flexible, 4.5 centimeter thick suit made out of Titanium Graphene (G-T) and with rubber. It is custom made to every soldier, and fits its soldier perfectly. It carries all the arming points for more armour, and the system that a soldier needs. It provides protection to areas not covered by the G-T plates. This suit is called the glove, and it extends from the tips of the toes, to the top of the neck, and the wrists.

On the underside of the glove is an array of medical equipment. 36 injury detectors, dozens of delivery pipes, and 10 biofoam containers, with 340mL of biofoam between them all. The containers are located around the glove to ensure that one hit of the body does not mean all the biofoam leaking out. If a injury detector detects a breach of the soldiers skin, then it will dispense biofoam to the area. Biofoam is a substance that disinfects and kills viruses, clots blood, and helps cells repair themselves or tissue much faster.

On top of the glove, there are multiple points for armour plates to be placed on. Graphene Titanium, or G-T armour is used on the plates. The arm has 4 plates each. One shoulders guard, one elbow guard, one forearm plate, and one wrist guard. The legs have 3 plates. One Thigh plate, one knee pad, and one ankle guard. Their is also a hip plate that protects the hip, underside, and bottom of a soldier. Each plate is around 10 centimeters thick. 4 ammo pouches are located around the legs (2 sidearm, and 2 rifle). A pistol holster is located on the leg under the soldier’s dominant hand. On the back, there is a single arming point for rifles, and 2 arming points for pistols and SMG’s are on the legs, along with a bayonet holder.

The belt holds many utility tools for soldiers. It holds a Swiss Army Knife, hammer, band aids, extra biofoam and other medical equipment, a GPS, a walkie talkie, a flask, MREs, and 2 pouches for miscellaneous objects. 2 extra magazines for pistol and SMG’s are located on the belt. 3 Frag Grenades, and 3 Flash Grenades are located on the belt as well.

While not usually worn in combat, a backpack can be attached to a soldier’s rifle arming point. The backpack is made from the same material that makes up the gloves and boots. The backpack can hold 2 oxygen tanks on the side if the soldier is going into a low oxygen environment. It can also hold more ammo, food, water, spare parts, tools, maps, GPS’s, and more.

A robotic spine is placed into the glove itself, it has multiple arms throughout the glove itself. The purpose of the spine is to reduce the weight of the amour the soldier carries, and increase speed, strength, and agility. A very small (3cmx2cm) fusion generator powers the entire suit, it is located under the glove and is heavily protected. The generator produces 20 kilowatts of power in an hour, and can run fo 4.5 weeks before needing refueling. If it is struck, the generator automatically shuts off the prevent a explosion.

Gloves and boots protect the soldier’s hand and feet. The boot is made of G-T polymers, this makes it more flexible, but less durable. The sole of the boot has a 4.5 centimeter thick sheet of reinforced G-T armour (the same used on the helmet), the purpose of this is to protect the soldier if they step on a small mine. The gloves are made up of the same material as the boots, with normal G-T on the fingers, in between the joints. The gloves has a sensor on its palms that can tell what weapon your using, and how much ammo it carries.

The chest has two plates that connects together on the shoulders and hips. to form the chest piece. The chest piece is 12 centimeters thick, the breast plate adds an additional 8 centimeters to the torso. On the chest is 2 extra ammo pouches that can be filled with 30 bullets, a storage pouch, a knife holder, a camera, a light, a small first aid kit, and a small grenade pouch.

The helmet itself is 10.5 centimeters of heavily reinforced G-T armour that surrounds the skull, scouring the face. It has a riot police cover attached to it to provide additional facial protection. The helmet has hear protection for the ear, and a pair of lights on each side above the ears so that a soldier can see in the dark. A facial mask covers the face from the chin, to the bottom of the eye sockets, it is made of the same material the glove uses, except for the nose, which is made out of G-T armour. A mouth mask is placed on top of the mask for jaw protection, it is made out of less dense G-T. The mask can filter out smoke and to an extent, gas, it can also filter out bacteria and viruses in the air. A small microphone is in the mask for communication, the mask can block out sound coming from the soldier’s voice. Glasses are placed above the mask, the glasses is made of G-T, while the lenses are made out of Red non-brittle Graphene, tinted to block out bright light and UV. In the lenses, a Heads Up Display shows what weapon the soldier is using and the amount of ammo in it, what parts of the soldier is damaged or injured, enemy and friends and their info, which way they are facing (N,S,E,W), altitude, speed, and who is speaking.
