The Kingdom of Velkisa is a gargantuan, efficient nation, ruled by King Harold I of House Blackhardr with an iron fist, and remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, ubiquitous missile silos, and multi-spousal wedding ceremonies. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical, humorless population of 13.603 billion Velks are ruled with an iron fist by the corrupt, dictatorship government, which oppresses anyone who isn't on the board of a Fortune 500 company. Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.
The relatively small, corrupt, moralistic, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Industry, and Law & Order. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Aerma. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 9.0%.
The frighteningly efficient Velk economy, worth a remarkable 3,217 trillion Rodins a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with significant contributions from Retail, Information Technology, and Soda Sales. Black market activity is frequent. Average income is an impressive 193,505 Rodins, but there is a vast disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 1,614,157 per year while the poor average 4,556, a ratio of 354 to 1.
Sheep-like political loyalists repeat the mantra "one wheel bad, three wheels good", Velk watches list strained wrists as a common side effect, young soldiers are shocked to discover there are no 'safe spaces' on a battlefield, and half-submerged and flooded seaside hotels are technically still next to the beach. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Velkisa's national animal is the Huskij Eagle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to toxic air pollution, and its national religion is Cyanism.
Velkisa is ranked 50,723rd in the world and 28th in Barbaria for Most Extreme, scoring 31.41 on the Paul-Nader Subjective Decentrality Index.
