The Federal Republic Coast Guard

The Coast Guard of the Federal Republic

The Futrellian Coast Guard is the fifth largest branch of the Federal Armed Forces. This branch is always active and ready for enemy incursions close or in Federal territorial waters. The secondary goal of the Coast Guard is search and rescue and assistance of ships in distress (SODs) within Futrellian territorial waters.

The Federal Coast Guard is tasked with the protection of the Federal Republic’s territorial waters, coastline, rivers, lakes, and other domestic bodies of water. Its duties include the following:

1. Enforcing maritime laws and regulations.
2. Locating and rescuing the survivors of shipwrecks and plane crashes over water.
3. Providing security for seaports.
4. Interdiction of smugglers, pirates, marine poachers, illegal aliens, and suspicious foreign vessels.
5. Protection and maintenance of navigational markers.
6. Conducting marine safety inspections.
7. Enforcing marine environmental protection laws.
8. Clearing paths through ice blockages in shipping lanes.
9. Marine research.

The Federal Coast Guard is widely known for their large medical corps and small fleet of hospital ships used in international missions across the world. Doctors who have served in the Coast Guard are highly skilled and often are sought after by most hospitals across Futrellia and are paid three times more than a doctor with just university experience.

The Current Commandant of the Coast Guard is Commandant Anthony McWhorter. With second in command as Rear Admiral Samantha Shevosky.

The current active duty numbers are 32,000 in active duty with 26,500 in reserve.
