Simul Introduction

Thank you for Choosing Simul!

Introduction

First off, I would like to thank you for choosing this region and hope that you will make it your home. Whether you are new to NationStates, or a seasoned player, we are glad to have you.

When you have just arrived, introduce yourself on the RMB! People can get to know you.

Simul is a relatively new region that is a successor to The Palumban Nations. The original members of Simul come from there. It was created by Erithaca in April 2018 and became rather boring and started losing members.

Simul was then set up as a roleplaying region and has continued to this day. All types of nations are allowed. We hope to be a friendly and welcoming community.

You should join the WA and endorse other WA members to help boost the region's influence.

As well as the RMB, we also use Discord to communicate. It is completely optional, but fun to use and lets you view government discussions. The invite link changes, but can be found in the World Factbook Entry.

Gameplay History
Simul was founded on August 6, 2018 at 11:44 am, GMT.

Early formation

On April 11, 2018, Erithaca created a region called The Palumban Nations. Although the region successfully developed and grew, reaching 20 members in early June, it continued to be plagued with persistent issues. Efforts to establish serious roleplay events stagnated, the region was clogged with many inactive nations, the population was dropping, and several nations, including the founder, expressed dislike for the region's name. Recognizing these concerns, Erithaca made a late-night RMB post to figure out the region's next steps with the other active members.

The most easily addressable of these topics, of course, was the name. Erithaca noted that the name "The Palumban Nations" had no actual meaning or significance and ought to be changed. Combined with the other issues, it quickly became clear that it might be necessary to recreate the region entirely. At this point, Dus osts, who is in a timezone several hours behind Erithaca, read the message. As an idea for a new name, they suggested "Simul," meaning "together" in Latin. With the core members in agreement, Erithaca created Simul the next day, with many nations moving there within hours. Since the region had decided to create a new, original world for the reinvented roleplay, Eglaecia (the former Foreign Officer) and Capacitor hills (the former President) brought in new nations: Komshao and Flomeran states. Along with Dus Osts, the former Chief Justice, they were appointed as the first Guardians of Simul.

Security

Here are some threat levels for Simul:

1 The region is safe and without worry of attacks.

2 The region is largely safe. There is a little worry of attacks.

3 The region is safe. There is a reasonable chance of attack. Advanced screening of immigrants has been put in place.

4 The region is unsafe. There is a high chance of attack. A password is in place. Recruitment and immigration have stopped. Government members are observing the opposing nation. A meeting of the military and executive authorities has been called.

5 The region is unsafe and at war. A password is in place. Recruitment and immigration have stopped. The government is still in control and the military is defending the region as well as they can. The foreign officer has called on embassy nations to support the military.

6 The region is in a state of anarchy and at war. The region has been invaded. The government is not in control and the military is defending the region as well as they can. The foreign officer has called on embassy nations to support the military. The founder has asked the Security Council to liberate the region. You may be reading this from a government in exile.

These are used as a warning system. A military will be summoned up if necessary.

This is a list of any nations who have been deemed destructive, disruptive, or dangerous to Simul. If a strange nation contacts you, please check this page before replying.

Roleplay

Starting

Roleplay is the main purpose of Simul, which is a modern-tech, closed-world region. "RP" stands for "roleplay". Roleplay in Simul is set only on the map and is set in the modern day. That means that you cannot have futuristic weapons or other technology.

Factbooks are absolutely necessary for good roleplay. They can be made in NS dispatches, on the forum, or anywhere else that is accessible. As of now, many of us, including me, have not made a factbook. It really should be part of getting on the map. This is why there is a factbook registry for all map nations. It needs entries. Please telegram Erithaca your factbook and he will put it here. This is a good template for a factbook.

We also need to use the news thread. It is where much of the RP happens right now. Here is a link. The news thread also needs to be used regularly, but only after some factbook writing. It needs to be used regularly as well so that RP doesn't just stop.

If something becomes too large for the news thread, or you want to create a seperate story line, you should think about OPing your own seperate thread.

There is no gameside government, but a group of Vice-Founders and Guardians who have been entrusted with regional authority.

The Principles form the "rules" of Simul and act as general guidance for the region:

Principles

by Erithaca

Simul Principles

These principles are hereby enacted and encoded, to be the guide to all activity in Simul. They shall make it a successful, open community of writers and worldbuilders. It is advised that all read them. Simul shall progress undistracted, led by a core of active roleplayers while always welcoming newcomers.

Leadership

Strong and active leadership is necessary to prevent Simul from dying out. This leadership shall take the form of the Founder, but also a strong, stable core of active roleplayers who should be recognised for their effort and potential with regional authorities. Those with high influence rankings and those who have proved themselves to be particularly useful to he region in gameplay should also be promoted.

Simul shall not have a pluralistic administration or regional government. Any members with regional authorities shall use them in a spirit of administration to allow the roleplaying to continue. They shall enforce their authority in compliance with these principles, but if there is disagreement over fairness, it shall be brought to the Founder, who has supreme authority over Simul. Simul shall also remain independent from and neutral to "raiding" and "defending".

Promotion

As well as taking part in events within the region, Simul must reach out interregionally and roleplay, even in a closed situation among the wider community: on the NationStates forums. All roleplay should take place there, so that others might see our canon being built and consider joining. The Regional Message Board is for out of character discussion only.

Members should also try to participate in out-of-character community threads or discussion threads and share stories as examples to inspire creativity in others. All of this participation shall take place in earnest, without ulterior motives.

Simul shall also open and maintain embassies with other active or promising roleplay regions. Those with regional authorities are encouraged to search for these regions and take an active approach, requesting embassies first. Simul shall not open embassies with non-roleplaying regions unless there is a special reason. Embassy relations shall be maintained by frequent invitations to join events and roleplays and general interregional discussion.

Inclusivity

Simul shall try to avoid negativity and elitism, while maintaining some certain standards on conduct. Simul shall not try to isolate itself. It is elitism that makes it hard for a region to grow while new members are rejected. Elitism creates negativity, which infects everything. Any newcomers shall be welcomed and given assistance in roleplaying and worldbuilding. There shall be no password on Simul unless necessary for security reasons. Members shall have creative freedom that does not contradict any other rules.

Behaviour

It is also necessary to set out some basic, but clearly defined and well-enforced rules for roleplay. There are also some more specific princples which need to be established about roleplaying.

There shall be one official map for the region that shall be the basis for all canon roleplay. To apply for a map spot, a nation must be a Citizen and provide the Cartographer with their desired location and their factbooks. To be on the map, nations must have at least one forum post and a well-written factbook. They must have a reasonable name. To remain on the map, nations must not cease to exist. They must either create or significantly edit a factbook or post in a regional roleplay thread every 17 days. The population of nations on the map shall not be over 30 million, the GDP not over $50,000 per capita and generally have reasonable statistics not provided by the game NationStates.

"Godmodding" shall be discouraged and may be completely ignored. Simul is a realistic region: there are no magic or miracles and another player's actions cannot be dictated. Rudeness and posting where a member has been asked not to do so shall not be tolerated.

Members are also encouraged to check spelling, puncuation and grammar, to use paragraphs when needed, to avoid one-line posts and to avoid "bumping" posts. Information about the game or any other out of character details shall be kept seperate from RP.

Roleplay can take several forms, examples of which are listed here. News posts must contain the place and date of reporting and are written as a news story. There can be official letters, as well as third person narrative stories, which contain speech from characters.
