The Alkmon Tribune - Issue VI - CASCADIA'S BOLD MOVES

CASCADIA was forced to declare a state of emergency Tuesday as the worst act of violence on Cascadian soil since the Evergreen Revolution in 1938 occurred. In the late morning of December 3rd, a Minorian resistance cell orchestrated an attack at the campus of Osborne City University, ending with an unsuccessful hostage situation. The current death count is one hundred nineteen, and the search for people in the wreckage is still ongoing. Eleven bombs were planted throughout the civilian-section campus dormitories in secret by the twenty suspects—the names and identities of said suspects have not currently been disclosed by the Cascadian Bureau of Intelligence and Investigation (CBII). The bombs were detonated at 11:34 AM Alkmon Western Time (AWT), collapsing walls and caving in ceilings, which smothered and trapped students and staff within. It is estimated that over a hundred casualties were sustained in the first minutes by the initial explosions and the collapses that followed, with more individuals being uncovered as the investigation goes on. Following the explosions, the Minorians surrounded the dormitories and began searching the wreckage for survivors. Many people fled the scene and were taken into custody by Osborne Metropolitan Police, while the more trapped or immobile were taken hostage. The terrorists demanded only one thing: that the Cascadian government recognize USA Minor as an official state once again, something that has been refuted and criticized by President Jackson and many other Alkmonai leaders. They claimed that all twenty-nine hostages would be executed if the government refused. Cascadian Army Rangers and MetPol created a staggered line around the school and blocked all entryways and streets, hoping to keep the Minorians inside while they devised a plan—police traded gunfire with them for a while, no casualties were sustained. Around an hour into the hostage situation, thirty unarmed Rangers-in-training, who were on a routine exercise run during the explosions, snuck through the defenses to ambush the terrorists, storming into the room where the hostages were being held and engaging the armed Minorians in brutal hand-to-hand combat. The struggle lasted over fifteen minutes—no available cameras showed the fighting—and the Cascadian Rangers left the room with all twenty-nine hostages alive and relatively unharmed. Unfortunately, the Ranger trainees did not escape with their whole unit. Thirteen out of the thirty were killed in the assault due to them being defenseless to the Minorian’s stolen rifles. All who participated in the ambush were heavily wounded.

Via request of the Cascadian Army Ranger Corps, we will now honour the names of the fallen:

Private Deuxième KAYDEN LLOYD, 19
Corporal JAMAR HORN, 20
Private LILY CORSHAK, 18
Private Premiere GIANCARLO CANTU, 23
Specialist DARREN LONG, 20
Private Premiere AVERY VALDEZ, 22
Private MARKUS SHORT, 19
Corporal ROWAN BRIDGES, 24
Corporal LÉOPOLD HAGEN, 21
Private Premiere ANGELO ALLISON, 19
Private SÉVERIN CORNE, 17
Private ELI BERTRAND, 22
Staff Sergeant GABRIELLE ABBOTT, 31

All thirteen late Rangers were promoted posthumous as a final testament to their brave actions, and were given a special graduation ceremony by the CARC, their newly earned patches laid over their coffins. President Jackson attended the ceremony with his husband and daughter. All of the soldiers, living and passed, will be gifted the Cascadian Gold Evergreen, the highest condition of military honour, by President Jackson during a second ceremony in Joyce after the survivors have all recovered from their injuries. All seventeen soldiers have respectfully turned down the opportunity to automatically receive their patches and graduate Ranger training, voicing that they would prefer to earn their patches rather than have them handed to them. Specialist Connie Williams, who sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and shoulder during the ambush, told the press on Wednesday: “They earned their patches by paying the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of the innocent. I didn't.” The Rangers will all be placed in the same unit to sustain their comradery and spirit in battle. Osborne has been the pride and joy of Cascadian military and academic education ever since its founding in 1948, with it being the training school for CARC Officer Corps, and is very important to the City of Osborne and the nearby Faidley Army Operating Base. The actions dealt on the 3rd of December will not be forgotten any time soon by Osborne, Cascadia’s citizens, and the world as a whole. President Jackson, in the afternoon following the incident, stoically addressed the Cascadian people on the steps of the Evergreen Revolution Memorial Building at the capital in the pouring rain, saying that: “As I can imagine, this heinous attack, and the news surrounding it, has torn out the hearts of many Cascadians. This attack was utterly unjustified, and unwarranted in every regard by both moral and law. The people, and by extension the government, have spoken. We offer the Minorian Nationalist cells a single condition: to lay down their arms and cease such mindless attacks. For those who refuse our simple order, prepare for war. Our hour, people of Cascadia, is now. Those standing against us face arduous prosecution before both the courts of the Alkmon Parliament and the leaders of Europe at the Hague. This is our time.”

FOLLOWING a series of talks at the Dijona Neutral Zone, the Cascadian Bio Region has agreed to pledge forces officially into joint-Operation: WHITE CROSS, with the promise of one hundred percent civilian protection. Felchan ambassador to Cascadia Jaien Ioluva has expressed his pleasure with how smoothly the talks went, citing the renewed interest and anti-Minorian Nationalist sentiment from the Cascadian representatives following the attack at Osborne City on Tuesday. With the K5 International being fully reopened after the search for the suspects from the Miagsregh attack went cold back in July, forces and supplies are free to move over land again. In response to them joining, Felchan Hegemon Heskel Crane dispatched the Felchan Fifth Army to move along the southern Cascadian Border with the CARC First Division to aid in the safe passage of the consistent influx of refugees coming in from 42Forever, O Ka Waii, Saint Jerry of Booze, and the Minorian-Kriegsrecht Organized Territory. As well, a detachment from the Felchan Sixth Fleet has been sent to Joyce’s Bight to form up with the Cascadian Self Defense Fleet with the purpose of cooperation and strengthening the protection of waterways through the war-plagued coastal zones of Pagrya and the MKOT. Such large movements of soldiers, ships, and supplies through Cascadia has not happened since the middle of the Cold War, making this a very bold move for the pacifist state. The sudden understanding between President Jackson, Hegemon Crane, Queen Krovolex, and Prime Minister Wright has created quite a stir within the global community, with it being hailed as a new golden age of Alkmonai cooperation. Crane released this statement talking about just that: “The President’s [Jackson’s] newfound trust in the Alkmon Joint Forces has proved we all can work together towards a common goal, and that those who wish to destroy the civilizations we’ve fought so hard to sustain are once again outnumbered as we stand tall. The glory of Imperial Felchah, combined with the pride of Cascadia, the unity of the Geronimo States, and the straightforwardness of Xovland are the key to keeping this continent organized as we have been for the last seventy-odd years.”

Miscellaneous News:

The Felchan heavy cruiser FHB Luso Van-kora has been told off by Chinese forces near the Nine-Dash Line following rising tensions between the countries disputing claims of ownership of the small Spratly island group. Ship Captain Faraeie Novokionae complied with the Chinese orders, and returned to station in the Central Pacific. Incidents like these are becoming more and more common, like with the US reconnaissance plane forced to wave off back in August following the Chinese ATC claiming the Spratlys were within ‘their territory’.

The Imperial Felchan Internationale lost to the Umog Global FC 1-2 on the 27th of November, but moved on to beat Calappess Aleek on the 4th in their capital, Sedro-Woolley. Felchan football fans are high in spirit as their one-loss season leads them ever closer to the Alkmon International Championship League (ICL) Cup Final coming this May.

While the mood in Cascadia is bound to be dour for an extended amount of time, football has always been an escape for the Cascadian people since before the days of the old regime. Cascadian football supporters are on edge this weekend as possibly the most anticipated CBR sports rivals are set to face each other in Western Joyce on December 25th, when Joyce-Sardania takes on Corsika Joyce in the CFL A Championship. Osborne FC and Crāyola City FC are set to compete for the CFL B Championship in Crāyola, with the winners of both matches will battle for the coveted CFL Premiere Cup.

The city of Argai has placed its bid for the 2030 Olympic Winter Games, following a survey by the Felchah United Sports Committee that showed overwhelmingly positive support for a Felchan Olympics. Felchah began participating in the games again back in 1984, after the collapse of Hegemon Kinori’s Imperium. Argai, which is already Felchah’s bustling centre for sports events, had placed bids for the 1994, 1998, 2002, 2010, 2018, and 2022 Winter Games, but was not selected.

The Cascadian Men's National Football Team is headed to the semifinals of the Alkmon CFL C Championship, after thrashing Sarder Nat 5-2 on Saturday. The Bucks are looking to seal their eighth international trophy in the last decade, bolstering the Cascadian prominence in the football world. Most expect Cascadia’s “Boys in Evergreen” to win the title, although rival Felchah’s recent run of good form in the tournament has some wondering if the Cascadians can finally be dethroned.

Certain children’s food products by Pagryan company Greatworks have been recalled for traces of lead found in shipments made with a pull-date after October 15th. Check your labels and keep your children safe, further information from the Felchan BPHSs’ study on said products will be released as it comes.

Eastern St. Jerry of Booze has halted its order of fifteen Lockheed-Martin F-35Cs after the one delivered catastrophically collapsed during takeoff from the carrier Intimidator, injuring the pilot. It apparently, according to Jerry technicians, was a mechanical failure that caused the landing gear to jar right and fall, though Lockheed-Martin engineers blame the outdated rocket catapults aboard the forty-year-old ship. FAA investigations will continue, but Booze has confirmed their suspension of the deal directly after the incident.

The United Socialist States of Sovuncessia have entered the Remnant of Alkmon, establishing itself in the People’s Benefit Party and instantly striking up relations with Imperial Felchah and the Cascadian Bio Region. It is being seen as a country worth paying attention to, however, as it is optimistic and prosperous as a political body and has enormously prideful people.

The recent murder of Felchan lesbian activist Learaea Vaianon last month at a PRIDE event has been charged as a hate crime as well as the original charges of first degree murder. LGBTQ+ citizens across the continent were affected by her loss, as she was one of the strongest voices in the Pagryan Valica Square Protests back in 2013.
