Overview
The Bureau of Aerospace Research and Exploration is the primary aerospace research agency of the Socialist Republic of Brulafi. Founded in 1964 by General Samuel Dudley, the agency was originally under the control of the military, but as a result of the Brulafi '88 Reforms, the agency came under the control of the Ministry of Science.
History
The Bureau was originally founded in 1964 with the help of the Soviet Union in order to develop a domestic ballistic missile program, and as such received a significant head start thanks to the aid of Soviet rocket scientists. Once the Soviet Union and Brulafi split ways in 1966, however, the choice was made to place primary focus on utilizing the rockets already partially built to deliver payloads into orbit rather than cargoes of death onto other countries. A hastily-assembled satellite, Pioneer 1, was assembled shortly after this choice starting in July 1966. It was a round ball, based off of the design of Sputnik 1, containing a small explosive payload and a radio-operated trigger for remote destruction. The purpose of this launch was to determine if remote operation of payloads from space could be controlled from the ground. The launch and detonation of Pioneer 1 was a success, paving the way for more missions to space in the future.

After the successful launch of the first Brulafi man into space, Captain Tazalek Narmaljev, a plan was hatched in the halls of the United Central Communist Republics to begin a cooperative venture in sending astronauts from other nations into space as a gesture of friendship and to benefit their nations' own space agencies.
