Vernal Festival

The Vernal Festival in Bhàyawāla marks the move from dormancy to vibrant life during the week surrounding the Vernal(Spring) Equinox. Throughout the week citizens party and plant new crops in their personal gardens. The Vernal Equinox itself holds a massive feast where all members of the community come together to celebrate the beginning of new life. This week long festival is generally preceded by three days of preparation of decorations and purchasing of presents. Presents are given to friends and family to signify the seasonal gift of life to the wildlife of the earth. These gifts are largely of different kinds of foods or decorations but other materialistic items are sometimes given. The Vernal Festival is the largest holiday in Bhàyawāla and nearly everyone is given the entire week off.
