Leader's Journal : War and rhetoric

A neighbour has decided to go to the Moon and remove all traces of our past Moon landing achievements, with threats to do the same to Karmagedon as a whole...

There are treaties against a space based arms race, yet a neighbour has kicked it off. Why ANY ONE would spend that amount of money to not only steal a flag but destroy our autonomous research and development base there, is beyond belief. But I think we made our point by being just as belligerent as their blatant boarder violations and attacks, when they tried to escalate, as if we'd not defend our selves...

Karmagendon has been working on extreme range rocketry for a while, and when I am talking about extreme range, I am not talking about them just hanging about in Low Earth Orbit, but vehicles capable of going far deeper in to the solar system. We want to mine those asteroid and visit other places with significant pay loads.

The Artemis NTR Superheavy made its debut today in an unexpected launch that would have been condemned the world over, if not for the fact that our neighbour, who shall remain nameless (and in an act of madness) opened fire after violating our boarder. It was said to be a mistake (which is hard to believe when timed with such a Moon stunt!) and they are backing down... It might have had something to do with Artemis returning to LEO after delivering its Moon bound pay load in record time...

Our neighbour no longer had a flag on the Moon, but it does have a very nice crater named after them now... And their craft got out just ahead of the arrival. It was a bit expensive, but now Artemis is back in orbit, other scientific and survey missions are being lined up.

The moon's craters are more numerous every day. Not what I wanted, but the technological feat of what Artemis means, did ring bells around the world. It's nice when people remember to be polite. We do not like to act belligerently, but we will also not stand by and be walked over.

Oh, the autonomous base is being replaced and a new mission to said new crater is being lined up. We're still interested in what the Moon has to offer and mining is one of our aims, so we'll pick up where we left off. And that pin point off world strike, at least has let others know that we can and will defend our off world assets.

This a real can of worms that has been opened and the Outer Space Treaty now has to be renegotiated, since we've shown we now have the capacity, both militarily and industrially to extend our reach, and one reason why it is being let slide is the discovery of Rare Earths in the aftermath of the strike signature...

Well, where did you think the mission and equipment came from? It was going to be used in all sorts of fun ways and an impacter was one of them. So we stepped up our efforts and launched early. We got the science done, we got the military side as a bonus and struck, if not gold, the next best thing. All in all, I call that a win, wouldn't you?
