Breaking News! Alcohol now legal!

The Snudgeskooge's Palace Herald Breaking News!
After months of anger and fierce debate and fiery rhetoric, the Snoodian government has officially decided to legalise alcoholic beverages. Rum, Whiskey, Champagne and Mead are all to be legalised following the introduction of alcohol treatment programs to be authorised in health clinics and hospitals across the country.

An expansive alcohol awareness program is to be rolled out within weeks of this announcement with the aims of helping citizens understand the health effects of alcohol while equipping people with the confidence to speak to trained health professionals when they need it.

Over the past few years, government scientists have produced many studies outlining the deathly effects of alcohol though the government has ensured us that it will be extremely hard to get hold of, allowing for responsible drinking and effective treatment and rehabilitation of users. All people currently in prison for alcohol related offenses will be subject to review and assessed as to whether they can be released back into society. They will have to undergo alcohol rehabilitation sessions at their local clinics.

Government regulations shall ensure the safety and happiness of all citizens within the empire and an alcohol amnesty has been announced with all citizens urged to bring forth any alcohol they have so it can be burned in secure government facilities. Any who come forward will be put on alcohol rehabilitation lists though anyone found with alcohol that falls outside substance regulations or any group found supplying or manufacturing any alcohol without going through proper government channels will be subject to pre-legalisation treatment.

The head of the Imperial Snoodian Food and Drink Association (ISFDA) had this to say: 'We understand the government has legalised alcohol with the intent of regulating supply while keeping it legal. Drink may be highly addictive and currently destructive but with proper regulation and the alcohol awareness program that's coming out, people will be properly informed and be able to get the necessary help. This is certainly a development in government policy and the police will be giving Parliament monthly reports on their findings due to the divisive nature of the decision. I think it will help people who could have been tricked or blackmailed into engaging in illegal activity for organised crime come forward. This will inevitably help police in their mission, something that we take extremely seriously.'
