‘The Orision of The Seven’

“Oh thou, The Great Bear, (1)
By whose art came into being the Allness,
The Allness within which We live,
We praise Thou, this and every day.

“Oh thou, The Great Bear,
Who sent unto urrs the Seven Holy Helpers
That they might teach and guide urrs,
We thank Thou, this and every day.

“For sending unto urrs Little Bear,
Who exemplifies the Virtue of Furrness(2),
Which is the first of Virtues,
— May We exemplify also this Virtue —
We thank Thou, this and every day.

“For sending unto urrs Pig,
Who exemplifies the Virtue of Companionship,
— May We exemplify also this Virtue —
We thank Thou, this and every day.

“For sending unto urrs Rabbit,
Who exemplifies the Virtue of Providentiality(3),
— May We exemplify also this Virtue —
We thank Thou, this and every day.

“For sending unto urrs Owl,
Who exemplifies the Virtue of Learningness(4),
— May We exemplify also this Virtue —
We thank Thou, this and every day.

“For sending unto urrs Donkey,
Who exemplifies the Virtue of Persistence,
— May We exemplify also this Virtue —
We thank Thou, this and every day.

“For sending unto urrs Tiger,
Who exemplifies the Virtue of Adventurousness,
— May We exemplify also this Virtue —
We thank Thou, this and every day.

“For sending unto urrs The Strangers,
Who exemplifies(5) the Virtue of Considerance(6),
— May We exemplify also this Virtue —
We thank Thou, this and every day.

“For sending unto urrs all Seven of these Holy Helpers,
To guide urrs in the Virtues that they exemplify,
— May We exemplify also these Virtues —
We thank thou, again, this and every day.
For from Thee, and of Thee, is the Allness,
And so shall it every be.
Ahhbear."(7)

Footnotes

This is sometimes called ’Darroth’s Orision’. It is used in 'One Plus Seven' (this nation's main faith) and several other 'GreatBear-ist' sects…

‘Orision’ is an old word for prayer, used by [e.g.] Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
The original version of this prayer is attributed to the prophet Darroth, who was one of the first Bears to meet and study with the ‘TrueBears’ (8), although in his day it would have referred to only five ‘Holy Helpers’ because both ‘Tiger’ and ‘the Strangers’ were later additions to this Mythos. (There are still sects that recognise only ‘Five Holy Helpers’, or that add ‘Tiger’ to the list as well but do not also acknowledge ‘The Strangers’, but those are significantly smaller & less influential than ‘One Plus Seven’… There are also a small sect that recognizes 'Kittrobin' rather than 'Tiger' as the sixth 'Helper', and does not recognise ''The Strangers', and an even smaller one that recognises all three of those Helpers as well as the original five: These incorporate a verse thanking the Great Bear for sending Kittrobin ["who teaches the virtue of Communication]"(9), which the former group places after those about the original five Helpers and the latter group places after the verse about Tiger...)
The third-to-fifth verses about specific Helpers can have their order rearranged, to fit circumstances, but the order used here is the “default” one.

1. “The Great Bear” = God (the Creator).
2. “Furrness” does not translate easily into English, at least in a short form: It is essentially a combination of self-reliance & being true to one’s own nature, while acknowledging that others also have rights; respect for Nature as a whole; and behaving rightfully in general.
3. “Providentiality” = Prudence, in the sense of making wise use of what comes one’s way and planning in advance how to build from this. Rabbit had a ‘People’’ of his own, who lived close to the Bears in ancient times and who taught them about such matters as agriculture, preserving foods, and building shelters instead of just relying on caves or hollow trees.
4. “Learningness” = not just acquiring knowledge, also using this wisely.
5. “exemplifies” is used here in the form appropriate to a single being rather than plural, despite the plural nature of the associated Name, because ‘The Strangers’ are regarded as a single “Helper” despite manifesting in two bodies as a mother & young child of a species with which the Bears were otherwise unfamiliar until recent times. (As a mother & child Kangaroo, in fact…)
6. “Considerance” = understanding that people differ, accepting those differences (where they are just differences, and not actually harmful to anybody else or [beyond the limits considered acceptable in the development of civilisation to the environment), and helping them to be comfortable alongside everybody else anyway if that’s what they want.
7. “Ahhbear” = “Most-Wise”, in the actual Ursine language as well as (“borrowed” from that source) in the ‘Urso-English’ dialect of English… and this expression may be used by Bears who are speaking other forms of English, too. This form is used specifically for ‘The Great Bear’ (i.e. God, the Creator) and perhaps also sometimes — with the relevant name added — for one or another of the Seven Holy Helpers, or other major supernatural beings. With the alternative pronunciation & spelling ’Ahbearrh’ it is an honorific that might be used for some senior clergy, shabears, wizards, and so on, instead. The latter version In the form ‘Ahrbearr’ it is used sometimes [“optimistically”] as a personal name… as is ‘Ahrfurr’(2)...).
8. ‘TrueBears’ = a people who are [potentially] much longer-lived than ordinary Bears, and widely considered to be more advanced spiritually as well; not exactly “the Ursine counterpart to [Tolkienian] Elves”, but a similar concept in some ways.
9. The mundane 'Kittrobin' is a species of songbird that is native to parts of Bears Armed but that does not occur on Earth-RL.
