New Adalzica

New Adalzica (Adalzican:, Adalsika Alkihhe [ˌ æ.zæɫ.ˈ sex æɫ.ˈ ʃi.xɤx]), or simply Adalzica, is the successor state to the Kingdom of Adalzica, populated by the descendants of the North Duinians, a branch of the original Adalzican people.

Etymology
The name Adalzica comes from the Old Adalzican words adal meaning "common" and sika meaning "nation".

History
The first humans found in what is modern-day Adalzica were prehistoric peoples based based around the coast of the Gulf of Adalzica. Over time the Adalzican nation has taken the forms of many governments, one government, or under foreign governments.

Ancient Kingdoms
Adalzica's origins under a united governance began when King Utekiro united the ancient Adalzican tribes in the first century U.E. (sixth century A.D.). His line of succession eventually ended after almost 700 years, in 49 S.E. (1175 A.D.), when Adalzica was conquered by the Kingdom of Soyix, installing King Sormes I as its vassal leader. He and his three successors ruled for around 100 years before the Kingdom of Soyix collapsed, leading to Adalzica collapsing into a group of smaller city states and duchies.

The Old Kingdom
The states comprising the Adalzican people were most recently united by King Esuil the Great in 47 E.E. (1839), originally ruler of the Kingdom of Karoske. He created what is now known as the Old Kingdom of Adalzica, of which the capital was the city of Karoske. He reigned until 78 E.E. (1870), followed by his son Esuil II reigning until his death in 101 E.E. (1893) The next king Loreka I was so unpopular that in 103 E.E. (1895), a democratic revolution took place, overthrowing the monarchy and creating the Republic of Adalzica.

The Old Republic
The Republic of Adalzica began as a liberal conservative democracy with limits on the government's power. During this period, the government was based in a new city: Kiroli, meaning "capital". Between 1-5 L.E. (1902-1906), the First Soyoadalzican War was fought. Adalzica won the First Soyoadalzican War, annexing territory from Soyix. The next war between these countries would begin in 38 L.E. (1939). During the interwar period, the Republic also managed to colonise and annex the island of Kinton.

The Second Soyoadalzican War led to a crushing defeat of the Adalzican military in 41 L.E. (1942), with most of the gains in the First Soyoadalzican War being reversed. Shortly after, Adalzica elected a member of the Communist Party as head of the government, which was the final straw for the unstable situation Adalzica found itself in. Right-wing opposition took up arms against the Communist government and thus began the Adalzican Civil War.

The Civil War
The Blueshirts, composed of monarchists, religious conservatives, and capitalists took up arms against the Whiteshirts, who were mainly those loyal to the original government: socialists, communists, as well others ideologically left of centre. Additional skirmishes occurred between both of the two main sides and the group less formally known as the Greyshirts, mostly ethnic minorities, liberals, and anarchists who attempted to slow down the military progress of both sides of the war. After many years of bloody battle, the war ended with the Blueshirts winning in 45 L.E. (1946), and a constitutional monarchy being installed: a compromise between the proposed absolute monarchy and republic made by the first king Patonke I.

The New Kingdom
As time progressed, the power of Adalzica's monarchy became increasingly weaker and instead more ceremonial, granting more power to the people and their elected leaders. In 114 L.E. (2015), a new government leader was elected, Wiliama Rouni of the National Action Party, to some extent utilizing this weakness to institute a one-party dictatorship, with no opposition from the monarchy. Throughout his life, Wiliama Rouni was able to expand the borders of Adalzica while avoiding any major conflicts between Adalzica and other countries.

After Rouni's death in 139 L.E. (2040), his eldest son Belotah became his successor, taking the position of National Minister at the age of 38. His dictatorship oversaw an uprising in the region of North Duin, leading to intervention from Soyix. This resulted in the rebellion being crushed, however ceding some North Duinian land to Soyix. In addition, it was during his leadership that nuclear fusion was discovered in Adalzica, and began to be adopted as what would soon be a major source of energy for the country.

Wiliama Rouni II became the next National Minister in 176 L.E. (2077) at 46 years old. It was during his dictatorship that tensions began to grow between Adalzica and its neighbours. These tensions escalated into a Third Soyoadalzican War, then eventually a global conflict, now known simply as the "Greatest War".

The Greatest War
The Greatest War began in 186 L.E. (2087) and eventually led to nuclear mutually assured destruction between the major combatants, resulting in the nuclear bombing of many major cities, including Kiroli. The war ended in 192 L.E. (2093). After the end of the war, the most powerful countries became completely destabilised, not only due to the utter destruction of their governments and infrastructure, but the subsequent sickness and famine resulting from the effects of the nuclear weapons.

The Great Sinking
Following the Greatest War, a geological event occured which resulted in extreme rises in sea level over a few decades. This event is known as the "Great Sinking" and may have had an even higher death toll than the war preceding it, although estimates are poor due to the anarchy of the years during which it happened. It is theorised to be due to a runaway effect from the increased temperature caused by the nuclear fallout across the world, leading to the mass-scale melting of ice and thus rise in sea levels.

The New Republic
Following the end of the Great Sinking, there was a significant period of anarchy and short-lived governments in the small remaining portion of Adalzica, which now almost completely inhabited by the North Duinian people, rather than the previously majority South Duinians. By the year 230 L.E. (2131), Adalzica was fractured among various militias and larger military governments. One such militia was the Organization for the Restoration of Strength in New Adalzica, which, over the course of 9 years, succeeded to conquer the territory which the Adalzican people inhabited, except for a few distant islands such as Palaus and territories already conquered by Soyix.

After this new stability was formed, the Constitution of New Adalzica was ratified in 239 L.E. (2140), establishing a parliamentary constitutional republic where two rulers shared the position of head of state and government. Since this time, the Republic of New Adalzica has steadily grown, rebuilding the technology and infrastructure that was destroyed in the previous half-century. The population also steadily grew from a small, sparsely distributed population, to what it is today.

The Republic has also maintained significant isolationism, interacting very little in terms of trade and other relations with other countries. Of these few interactions, New Adalzica almost exclusively trade with neighbouring Soyix, and the relatively distant, though ancestrally related Free State of Palaus. Immigration and emigration are completely prohibited. The Republic has also banned the use of all nuclear energy following the events of the Greatest War. However, with rising support for anti-isolationist parties, all of this may soon change.

Geography
New Adalzica is located in the south of the Soyoadalzican Isles. It is bordered in the north by Soyix and in the south by the Sea of Adalzica. New Adalzica has an area of 55,879 km² which is covered mostly by hilly terrain.

Politics
New Adalzica is a unitary, parliamentary, representative democratic constitutional republic. Legislative power is vested in the Parliament, which is composed of the Gutolai Sikau (National Council) and the Gutolai Ieshoihe (High Council), the lower and upper house respectively. Both houses are elected through majority vote in their respective constituencies. Currently New Adalzica is split into 57 High Council districts and 171 National Council districts.

The position of head of state and government is shared by two National Ministers, making New Adalzica a diarchy. They may appoint ministers for lower executive positions in government (i.e. Cabinet). Either National Minister may veto the other's proposed executive actions. If a national crisis is declared by the Parliament, one National Minister is voted to be given the title of "Supreme National Minister". This gives them supreme executive and legislative power for 1 year or until the crisis is voted as resolved by the Parliament, although he may be prosecuted afterwards for abuse of power or violating the Constitution. The current National Ministers are Kosgolan Leheraubilin and Rasaman Kurma.

Since the founding of New Adalzica in 239 L.E. (2140), the Republican Party has dominated the Adalzican party system. In 245 L.E. (2146), more socialist politicians branched off into the Reformist Party, and shortly after, the Moderate Party also emerged. A law passed in 253 L.E. (2154) during the second minority Republican government made it so that each party could only be represented by a single candidate for National Minister. Recently, the Futurist Party was able to attain a plurality of votes for National Minister and seats in the National Council to form a government. Other parties that often appear in Parliament include the Communist Party and the Vanguard Party.

Law
New Adalzica uses a civil law system. It is based mainly on the style of civil law founded by King Utekiro in ancient Adalzica which was later significantly improved by King Esuil. The National High Court is the supreme court of Adalzica and is the highest court of appeal, where judges serve for life.

New Adalzica has a low murder rate of 5.09 murders per million people.

Foreign relations
New Adalzica currently recognizes only two other sovereign states: the Soy Confederation and the Free State of Palaus. These states currently retain friendly relations with each other, although do not have any form of military alliance but instead maintain trade with one another.

Military
The Adalzican armed forces are divided between the Adalzican Army, Navy, Airforce and National Guard. The National Ministers share the role of commanders-in-chief of the armed forces in general, superseded only in the case that a Supreme National Minister is appointed. In this case, the other National Minister becomes subordinate to the Supreme National Minister in military affairs.

Military service is mandatory for all able-bodied males beginning at age 20.
