Religion in Alurain

There are a few major religions in Alurain, though atheism is also very common. Religion is more common and influencial in eastern Alurain due to the cities, towns, and villages there being older and the reduced connection to Alurinian revolutionary forces, though there are still many practicioners in western Alurain including in the strongly revolutionary mountain cities. The Alurian government is fully secular and was established by a group containing a mixture of Alesens, atheists, and a small group of other religious members.

Aleseol
Aleseol is the most common religion in Alurain, practiced by around 30% of the population. The Alurinian hub for Aleseol is in Sondeha where a 700 year old church still stands. This religion was the official religion of Antrepet for a long time, until around 300 years ago when secularism rose and religion was removed from Antrepet's government. Aleseol is a monotheistic religion with a belief in a goddess who created the world and humanity out of a love for beauty. Aleseol's holy book is known as the Deimao and advocates for non-aggression, protection of the family, and providing for your immediate community, especially towards your town.

Atheism
Around 50% of Alurinians are atheists. In Maxyne this percentage reaches 80%, while in smaller towns such as Sondeha it can reach around 10%. The prominence of atheism largely ties itself to the revolution which prided itself on its secularism and went against Aleseol's ideas of non-aggression of focus on the immediate community instead of the national or world community.

Sandrism
Around 8% of the population practices Sandrism, a religion originating from Danayus. Sandrism is largely accepted in Alurain, though they can often have difficulties gaining support for major projects such as constructing places of worship.

Minority Religions
The remaining 12% of the population consists of people who practice a variety of other religions. Many of these people are immigrants to Alurain.

Freedom of religion is guaranteed in the Alurinian constitution. The government is secular though it is involved in the creation of public places of worship. Which of these buildings are constructed is based on census data taken yearly in which Alurinians are asked their religion and whether they would want a particular type of building to be made, and if the proportion wanting it is reached then the building will be constructed.
