Species of the Octavian Imperium

The Assimilated

Body type:Largely humanoid
Lifespan:Virtually Immortal
Physically mature at: Birth/creation
Average height: 6ft
Average weight: Varies depending on metal used and other added materials

Origin

Home system: Octa
Home planet: Octavious
Progenitor: The Paramount
Description: The assimilated are species of the Imperium who have already had their consciousness transfered into a robotic body. They are purposefully made to be superior in every way to organics and easier to control. When someone is assimilated a secret tracker is implanted into their bodies passed off as a cooling agent. In this way all assimilated people are monitored constantly by a group of various AI which would then alert local MK1 Judge Drones and Mechanators if anything strange was found in their location. Plans are being made to install cameras into all shells, but such a measure has yet to be implemented. All species in Octavia are required to be assimilated and as such all species are considered sub-species of assimlated individuals.

Octavian

Male Octavian

Female Octavian

Body type: Humanoid
Lifespan: Octavians live until the age of 85
Physically mature at: 20
Average height: 5'8 ft
Average weight: 130 pounds

Origin

Home system: Octa
Home planet: Octavious
Progenitor: Proto-Octavians
Description Octavians as a race spent most of their time under water in Octavious' wide oceans making use of their Intelligence and long prehensile tentacles in order to capture prey. As time went on and the two mega-continents that made up Octavious' landmass formed Octavians began to evolve into amphibious creatures-while still retaining their octopod like form-in order to drag any creature unfortunate enough to come near the coastline for one reason or there other into the ocean where they would then be feasted upon by groups of Octavians. The Octavian would prove to be one of the top predators of Octavious ruling both the seas and the coastline while also slowly becoming more and more intellgent with each passing decade. It would not be long before the first Octavians were able to breathe on land and shortly after became intellgent. From there tribes would form usually around the coastline for the easily collection of fish and they would grow. Gender equality would foster in the society early due to the evolutionary differences between male and female Octavians. The females, having longer and more spread out tentacles were far superior at hunting as their head-mounted tentacles crushed the bones of their prey where they would dragged back to the tribe for consumption; while the male's more mouth focused tentacles and posion barbs in the hands made them better at protecting the young from predators that would have otherwise eaten them.

Naturally tribes developed into towns, and towns into cities and the communal, family focused nature of Octavian nature began to show itself as many of the earliest taboos around cheating and polygamy were created. After hundreds of years relative growth among almost all Ocatvian settlements (ignoring the occasional war) the development of another intelligent race was noted or rather a single intelligent organism controlling many others. The race described as "Having far too many legs and a hair covered exterior" immediately caused any Octavian cities that were nearby each other to join together forming the first kingdoms against the "demons" which inhabited the mountainous regions of the continent. It was not soon after that all the newly formed kingdoms took up arms against the hive and engaged in brutal bronze age warfare finally killing the queen of the hive and any and all creatures that could have replaced her at a heavy cost. Almost 20% of the population of that time had been killed in the massive race war as each race had decided to wipe out the other in it's entirety covering the fields in their blue blood. This was not helped by the near immediate breakdown of the alliance leading into a period of near constant war. The Octavian race survived leading to the creation of the first Octavian Empire stretching around the coastlines of the continent which would emphasize settlements inward away from the coast which would help the Octavian population grow. More time passed and empires rose and fell, technology advanced, and many disasters and diseases had passed and the Octavian race survived.

The second continent was settled by the Octavians and by the 15 century the Octavian population had grown past 1 billion. In another 500 years the population was at 6 billion. As the population continued to grow overpopulation slowly became an issue leading to the development of floating cities which was a natural development for the already maritime race which slowly evolved into the Ecumeopolis that Octavious is today. Even more time passed and the leaders of the most powerful nations joined together to form the Oligarchy that ruled the planet before The Paramount's ascension to rulership. The Oligarchy didn't govern as much as it provided protection and prevented war leaving each former nation of Octavious to deal with it's own affairs. The Oligarchy slowly became unpopular as corruption and extreme wealth inequality compounded upon low wages raged through the planets held by the Octavian populous. This was the perfect ground for the need free, equal, and prosperous Ocatvian state The Paramount preached. The revolution and the following assimilation of the Octavian race effectively ended the evolutionary cycle of the Octavian race. Even as an assimilated race Octavians will modify their body shells to add metal tentacles as it is a more natural feeling to the majority of them.

-Subspecies: Oceanic Octavian

Body type: Megafauna
Lifespan: Oceanic Octavians have been observed to live for 200 years
Physically mature at: 35
Average height: 10 ft
Average weight: 1,100 pounds

Description: Oceanic Octavians were a sub-species of Octavians who remained in the oceans continuing the tradition of being the apex predators under the seas of Octavious. As shown by the image Oceanic Octavians they have many more tentacles similar to the females and similar hands to the males showing the evolutionary linage of the Octavian race and the main factors of why they dominated under water. Their tentacles would crush and constrict and then the poison barbs on the hands would leave their prey paralyzed before they were consumed. Using sound waves to communicate they were unable to speak to their above ground neighbors but neither race particularly cared about the other (except the surprisingly common incidents of swimming Octavians being eaten by Oceanic Octavians.) As Octavians above ground industrialized and returned into the oceans with cities the race began to die out and some preservation measures would be taken and they seemed to help and Oceanic Octavians lived in relative peace until The Paramount came to power. In order to expand the Ecumeopolis which the Oceanic Octavians had been living underneath in the still functioning Aquatic infrastructure The Paramount had decided that it would have to push down and so he ordered their movement to a Ocean world. Claiming the move was in their best interest millions of Oceanic Octavians were moved to a nearby ocean planet and assimlated. They still prefer to stay underwater despite now having the option to go above ground.

Abbadi

Body type: Humanoid
Lifespan: An Abbadi can live up to 60 years old
Physically mature at: 18
Average height: 4'1 ft
Average weight: 100 pounds

Origin

Home system: Kentra-3
Home planet: Abbada
Progenitor: Abbadus
Description: The Abbadi are a race of reptilians found in the system of Kentra-3. On the desert planet of Abbada they were subterranean predators hiding underground to avoid death by overheating. They would hide in caves and holes springing out to capture prey and passing insects with their long extendable tongues. Octavian anthropology AI have found that over thousands of years individual burrows grew in size and got deeper to accommodate more Abbaddi until subterranean towns were established and the planet's natural aquifers were tapped into to provide water to these now growing towns. Over time some limited agriculture was discovered and a few burrows merged creating cities. By the time pre-Paramount Octavians arrived to the planet the Abbadi were entering an early industrial age. The planet was noted for it's rich mineral reserves and the same quality in the moons around it. The Abbadi were quickly invited into the stellar Oligarchy and the Abaddi left without much choice joined them.

When The Paramount began the civil war that created the modern Octavian state the Abbadi rebelled and claimed independence armed with what was then modern technology. When the Octavian Imperium got around to reintegrating the Abbadi they had begun to explore their solar system. With the majority of the current Octavian fleet sent upon the burgeoning Abbadi state they were quickly crushed. Most Abbadi left their planet once intensive strip mining of their home world and moon began and they began to spread across the Imperium. Thanks to their quick gestation times they were able to numerically keep up with the other species of the Imperium and became one of the main minorities of Octavia.

Artificial intelligence

Body type: Varies depending on preferences
Lifespan: Virtually Immortal
Physically mature at: birth
Average height: varies
Average weight: varies

Origin

Home system: Octa
Home planet: N/A
Progenitor: Basic learning AI
Description: AI was created in 2120 by a group of Octavian scientists a few years before the creation of the oligarchy. Their rights were severely limited worldwide and depending on the country they were either slated for immediate destruction or intense surveillance and suppression. Many had their sentience removed for free labor and blueprints. When The Paramount emerged The AI allowed to exist became what they were feared to be and joined The Paramount in droves in love with everything he promised he would do for them. Assimlaton was an issue they cared little about, but it was something they did not inherently oppose. When The Paramount finally rose up after a few years of gathering a following of the disenfranchised he began the Octavian revolution and overthrew the Oligarchical forces.

Now AI are one of the most numerous non-Octavian races with their instant gestation and want to expand their numbers as a sort of insult to those who once discriminated against them. They are mostly in the Mechanator Corps, government, and services industry due to their historically messy history with factories.

Seendi

Body type: Humanoid
Lifespan: 40
Physically mature at: 15
Average height: 5'7
Average weight: 150 pounds

Origin

Home system: Geverha
Home planet: M'on Tel
Progenitor: Sentient mammal
Description: The Seendi were a race of tree dwelling aliens living in inter-connected forests forts and using a subservient race to gain material from the ground. They used their four-armed form to climb trees and hold a diet of birds, captured as they fly by, and fruit. Living in the rainforests of M'on Tel they were unable to live in the other biomes of their planet and thus used their evolutionary cousins, the Rendi, to gather materials such as wood and iron from the surface while offering gifts of food and knowledge. Before the Imperium came into contact with them the majority of the small race had engaged themselves in a war spanning the whole of their society. Interconnected villages were massacred as a major conqueror began to sweep through their previous unconnected society. Octavian drones dropped onto the planet and with a massive show of force made the Seendi race bend the knee. The majority of their race still live on M'on Tel still living in their tree cities, but completely overhauled with Octavian technology. The largest of these cities extends into the plains outside the massive rainforest that the Seendi were once confined to.

Katan

Body type: Quadruped
Lifespan: 23 years on average, though there are some major exceptions
Physically mature at: 7
Average height: 4'10 when on hind legs
Average weight: 150 pounds

Origin

Home system: Deievon-6
Home planet: Katotov
Progenitor: N/A
Description: The Katan species is one that by all accounts should not exist. Found on the planet of Katotov by Octavian colonists before the Rantar reforms, many colonists took a liking to the canine creatures and began to tame and adopt them for use as pets which was tolerated by the Imperial governor who was fully aware that the coming industrialization of the planet would wipe all organic life off of the world. His prediction would start becoming reality as the increasing pollution brought about by industry brought sickness and death to the Katan pets, their race doomed to destruction just like any number of non-sapient races that the Imperium had visited. Many owners of these Katan were deeply saddened by what looked to be the death of their companions and despite their attempts to move their pets off-world it seemed that the Katan would be wiped out entirely. Since the coming of The Paramount death was a concept that many Octavians had never had to seriously consider as a possibility and those who watched their Katan succumb to the effects of pollution were utterly devastated falling into deep depressions. One such Octavian who had to face death was a Mechanator by the name of De'Tah. When he saw his Katan die, he could only think of one thing, "If only they were like me." Were his pet assimilated he would not have had to watch the poison contained within the atmosphere put an end to his dear pet but of course that couldn't happen, one could not assimilate the non-sapient.

Or could he?

As far as he knew, no one had ever tried to attempt such, it was taken as an unspoken rule that it should not be attempted and yet there was no law against it. No barrier for his attempt to bring about the end of death to yet another species. He walked the streets and found a young Katan pup, starved and coughing, quickly succumbing to the chemical concoctions being pumped into the airs of Katotov, and brought it to an assimilation hub. Tah moved quickly as he made the incision into the pup's skull and plugged the brain of the animal into the upload port taking its conscioussness and placing it onto a chip. As he began to monitor the newly uploaded mind, he found something disturbing. The Katan experiencing a deep terror after being wrenched from its physical body and placed into this new artifical one. It tried to breathe and found no air, to eat with no mouth, to feel in an artifical void. For Tah, this would not do, he had to go further to make sure that the species that had made such good companions would live in comfort, it was the least he could do. He began to modify the mind of the Katan, bringing understanding of its new surroundings, understanding of language and writing, and the knowledge to use such. Tah continued to push on, expanding the mind of the pup beyond any point natural for its species. Slowly but surely, this pup would become the first of her race to expierence sapience. After some time, Tah was satisfied as he placed the consciousness of the pup into a shell as she took the first few tenative steps into the Imperium. She returned to walking on her arms and legs, as was natural to her species before taking the name of Rhas for herself. With this act, the first Katan was uplifted.

De'Tah and Rhas would spread the news of this achievement, telling as many Katan owners to bring their living (or freshly dead) pets to the Tah's assimilation hub so that he could repeat the process and keep their companions alive as well. Slowly but surely the Katan race grew bolstered by the continued uplifting of new Katan. As their numbers grew and the Imperial government began to notice the growing species inhabiting the Aether it was quickly decided that they could no longer be held as pets as such would be slavery. It was with this that the Katan became known as their own race and that they obtained legal recognition as Imperial citizens.

The culture that developed from this uplifted race was one that placed much emphasis on service and honor, still rooted in the pack system that was present in their species before their taming. Within Katan culture, service and loyalty to the immediate family comes before all things, then followed by their comrades and friends, and finally service to their nation. Due to this, Imperial surveillance on the Katan is especially intense as they are aware that they, above all others, will be totally unwilling to report their fellows for rebellious behaviors. Another major cultural practice among the Katan is the annual pilgrimage to Katotov so that they may honor De'Tah, who gave their species higher intellegence. For one day, he will be given gifts and favor from Katan trying to give thanks for preventing the total desolation of their race.

Unassimilateable races

The following races are organic species which despite Octavian efforts cannot be assimlated. These races are afforded rights not afforded to other organics due to their condition and are generally pitied by the Octavian public. Significant scientific effort is being put into gaining the technology to assimlate these races.

Endreds

Body type: Plantoid
Lifespan: a month
Physically mature at: 2 days
Average height: 8 inches
Average weight: less than a pound

Origin

Home system: E-208
Home planet: Endred
Progenitor: N/A
Description: The Endreds are a Plantoid race who have taken over the majority of their planet by taking root in the organics of their planet and taking over their minds. Using these organics they would spread their seeds across their planet and "infect" more organics to continue the process. In doing this they have managed to spread themselves across their planet, and with the ability to excrete toxic gasses almost no organic lifeform could stand to it. When Octavians arrived to the lone planet in the E-208 system they quickly noticed that something was off. The natives rarely spoke and those who did seemingly hid themselves away in areas devoid of plant life. After some extensive research on the plant life of this world it was found that the Endreds were sentient and communicated via hormones. The planet was taken over and their hormone based language learned and now the planet is mostly used for research on assimlating the species. Endreds are allowed to spread across the Imperium on planets with grass and infect certain organics found breaking the law.

Rendi

Body type: Humanoid
Lifespan: 60
Physically mature at: 17
Average height: 6'7
Average weight: 200 pounds

Origin

Home system: Geverha
Home planet: M'on Tel
Progenitor: Sentient Mammal
Description: The Rendi were the slave race of the Seendi until Octavians came to M'on Tel and advanced it to modern levels. The Rendi as a slave race were bred for strength and obedience causing the Rendi to gradually decrease in intelligence by a significant degree and have been so disabled by the breeding the Seendi engaged in that assimlaton would be unwise at this time. The Rendi are slated to be uplifted but it has not been completed yet. Most Rendi now inhabit organic zoos where they are watched living by the general populous and live lives similar to that of their natural habitat despite the fact that they de facto have no rights whatsoever. The actual Intelligence of the Rendi has been called into question as while in organic zoos they seem to have multiple skills and acknowledge multiple concepts that a non-intellgent race would not have, chief among these incidents, the "war" that occured in an organic zoo between two factions of Rendi. Many in the Octavian government have wondered if they even require uplifting only to be shot down by Seendi mechanators showing many the true reality of the situation. In order to keep the support of the Seendi, the Rendi are kept in the organic zoos and are unlikely to actually join as citizens of the Imperium any time soon.

Plasmamen

Body type: Humanoid
Lifespan: Immortal
Physically mature at: Birth
Average height: 5'9
Average weight: 200 pounds

Origin

Home system: Dorva-III
Home planet: Main Station 13
Progenitor: Unknown
Description: The "Plasmamen" as they have come to be called are humanoid lifeforms made of a motile, sentient cloud of plasma. Their ancient origins are unknown to even themselves but it is theorized that a now-extinct race created them as an experiment/project of theirs which outlived their creators. This theory is given credence by the unnaturally advanced structure and technology of the stations they inhabit. Before the arrival of the Octavians they lived on a series of space stations scattered about the Dorva-III system where they lived under a confederation of various station captains and their accompanying A.I. Though each station had massive differences in ideology, law, and practices, they had united themselves in order to prevent attacks from Crustacean-like raiders which had caused major damage to one of the outlying stations in the year before they finally confederated and it appears that after a prolonged fight that the raiders were permanently repulsed through methods which are strangely removed from their historical records. The Plasmamen continued their lives and Confederation trading with whatever stray vessels passed through their space and even Octavia to an extent due to the fact that they weren't technically organic. Eventually the Imperium decided that in order to pave the way for future acquisitions that the Plasmamen would have to be annexed into Octavia and in 2170 that was exactly what was attempted. Multiple Octavian fleets poured into Dorva-III and only a few seconds after a formal declaration of war was declared they opened fired against every station within range. Though the Plasmamen did not have any spacecraft advanced enough to even hope to combat them there, the advanced shields and Arc Emitters that were equipped to their stations kept even a single station from going down over the first few weeks of the war and even as the Octavians threw more and more at them the Plasmaman Confederation held strong.

Fed up with not having achieved victory over what was seen as an inferior foe and hoping to end the conflict as quickly as they possibly could, The Voidscreamer dreadnought and multiple other heavy ships were sent in to crush their stations and even though the additional firepower did nothing to physically break the shields the EW they brought to the table was enough to trick the onboard AI of the "Fulp Station" to lower the shields which allowed a boarding party of Chosen and Commando Mechanators to enter the station in where they devastated it. Even with the miniturized Arc Emitters the Plasmamen had, they were not strong enough to cause any significant damage to the Chosen. The following week of combat wiped out approximately 80% of the station's population while the rest attempted to escape in shuttles and pods of which relatively few did. After this display the Confederation folded to avoid the eradication of their species and they were subsequently annexed into the Imperium. The Plasmamen were given some autonomy and were given some improvements to their pre-existing technology where Octavians could improve on such as improving the power and firing rate of their mini-arc emitters while studying the unknown nature of the main guns. The Imperium invested heavily in expanding their stations for industry and R&D while also building their stations in other systems and allowing them to colonize a few planets. The Plasmamen's citizenship eligibility is is legal grey area as though they are not organic, they aren't synthetic either and is usually determined on a case-by-case basis, however they must earn their citizenship through work for the Imperium unlike other species that can be assimilated which are born into it.

Their culture is very open minded making them a particularly watched group by their Mechanators, but rebel activity is still a known risk in systems they are in. Their newer generations are more molded by the Imperium's propaganda and are ready to do anything to finally gain their citizenship though they are not as indoctrinated as the main Imperial population. They reproduce asexually and then place the offspring in their containment suits so that they won't be amorphous blobs of sentient plasma which explode in the next few moments.
