End of season Review.
"Hi, I'm Jerry Bowen, tonight on ground sports we'll be reviewing the inaugural Murphtannian football league season. I have to say it didn't disappoint."
"So let's start with the Premier League, going into the season Villa and Liverpool Town were the favourites, and they didn't disappoint with them being the main contenders throughout the season. At the start Ashton dropped to as low as 7th and looked to be having an awful season but a 7-0 win over local rivals Birmingham United FC City started a superb run of form that saw them go the rest of the season unbeaten. Despite this however they still spent a majority of the season in 2nd place. While Ashton were in 7th and lost 2 games in a row, Liverpool Town just kept winning, I mean they didn't look like they could stop, but then towards the end of the season they dropped of massively, their star man Styler was injured for the rest of the season, only coming back for the final game of the season, and without him they just lacked that creative spark, they found themselves losing 6 of the next 7 games. This saw them drop from First place all the way down to third.
Villa were now in a position to win the title, all they had to do was beat local rivals The Wolves Club , who were having a decent season themselves, finishing 10th when they were predicted to finish 11th. Villa Park was at full capacity, the floodlights were on, the crowd was rocking, the stage was set for the most entertaining game of the season. The 15th minute, Jenkins plays a defence splitting pass into the path of Murphy, he runs on goal, he's 1 on 1 with Ball, and he slots it into the bottom corner, he jumps into the Holte end as the crowd goes wild. 23rd minute, Hoilett whips in a cross from the Wolves corner and 1-1! McCarthy heads it into the bottom corner. So it was 1-1 at half time, what followed nobody could've predicted, first Hoilett scored a free kick to make it 2-1 to The Wolves Club , then Jake scored a header to make it 2-2, then Hoilett scored a penalty in the 63rd minute and Naismith scored a over head kick to make it Villa 2-4 The Wolves Club . It looked like Villa were collapsing, so close yet so far to the title, then a masterclass followed, first Murphy scored a volley from inside the box in the 70th minute to make 3-4, then he scored another volley from outside the box to make it 4-4. The come back was on when Jenkins, from the half way line, volleyed the ball and sent it into the top of the net in the 88th minute. I tell you, you've never seen a stadium erupt like Villa park did, and what a goal to win you the title as well. That's how the game ended, 5-4 and Villa lifted the first ever Murphtannian premier league title.
Leicester Village were basically guaranteed qualification for the Globe cup all season, they were comfortably third until a last day win over Western Bromich FC lifted them into 2nd by a point. We have already covered Liverpool Town but they will be disappointing with a 3rd place finished, after being 1st for most the season, but the globe club is still a highlight for them. However there was quite a gap between 4th and 3rd as AFC Walsall united secured 4th in the last few games, having interchanged with Portsmouth City for much of the season.
Now onto the opposite end of the table, it was a disastrous season for Western Bromich FC, predicted for a comfortable mid-table finish they were hit with financial ruin as the owner, Chase Moss, was caught in a Scandal and forced to resign, unable to sell the club to a new buyer, Western Bromich FC was left with no money. Most of the staff and the entire first team was released, being snapped up by Championship and lower Premier League clubs, the manager, Teddie Gil, did stay however and managed to obtain 7 points, while Western Bromich FC finished last in the table they did well considering they only had 12 players throughout the season. Arsenal London FC also had quite a bad season. Having the lowest wage in the entire league system was never a good sign, predicted for 20th place they did slightly better in 19th, although they got lucky with the Western Bromich FC situation. They started well with a win 1-0 home against AFC Walsall united and 2 draws in their first 3 games, however they wouldn't win another game until mid-way through the season, beating Shrewberries village 6-3 in the FA cup, before losing 4-0 to Villa in the next round. They would win another game however beating Western Bromich FC 6-0 at home before drawing the next 3 games against Liverpool Town,The Spurs and AFC Walsall united before beating Western Bromich FC again, with a 5-1 away win. That ended their best form of the season as with only a 0-0 draw against AF Newcastle they slumped into 19th. Finally Spurs. The only relegated team not to spend all season in the relegation zone, at the start of the season it looked like they would live up to their 17th placed finish, however their form dipped as Coventry Town United's form went up. Overall a tame end to the season ended any hopes of Spurs remaining a premier league team.
