Welcome to the European Writing Contest!
The European Home Office is happy and proud to announce our third official European Writing Contest! As in our previous edition, the contest is open to participants from other regions too so feel free to send your submission even if you are not in Europe!

The Final Showcase is finally here! Take a look!
page=dispatch/id=1987969

When will it start and when will it finish?
The contest starts on December 5th 2023. Contestants then have 28 days to submit your work until the deadline on January 2nd 2024 24:00 GMT+1. Then, on January 9th 2024 unless any major issues or delays occur, we will release a full showcase of all the submissions and announce the various award winners.

What kind of work do we want?
It can be anything: a poem, a short story, etc; you just have to stick to the theme: CHRISTMAS. Yes, you got it right, we want Christmas stories! Yet, it can be any kind of Christmas story, be it a Horror or a Spy-story. In any case, remember that English is highly recommended. Other language permitted, since it's native language of at least one judge, is German. Don’t worry if you are not very proficient with English, we won’t take grammar into account for the awards.

How can you participate?
Just send your work to Regnum Italiae, either by telegram on NationStates or by email at regnumitaliae@gmail.com, as a text document within the time frame provided. You can use whichever format you prefer, but we think that either a PDF or Word file, or a Google document link may be more convenient and appropriate. Once the submission time is ended, Regnum Italiae will blind and pass the submissions to the judges for evaluation. Remember to specify that the message you are sending is a submission to the writing contest either at the start of the telegram or in the object of the email!

Rules and Requirements
Apart from the theme and language, there are some generals rules to make your work valid for our contest:

  • Keep it PG-13. So that everyone, regardless of age, can read it.

  • Keep it of a reasonable length. Specifically, do not exceed 3000 words, as we need to read all the works we receive in a reasonable timespan.

  • Don’t reveal your authorship. To keep the judges as impartial as possible. If you do, your submission will be invalidated.

  • Don't plagiarise. Obviously, don’t try to copy the work of others.

  • Submit one work only. To be fair to everyone, multiple submissions are not allowed.

Finally, being a resident in Europe or not changes the awards you can win. To be considered a European participant you must either:

  • Have a WA nation in Europe,

  • Have an Order of Europe recognition, or

  • Have an active account on Europe’s Forum (in this case you need to disclose such account and send a message through it to http://www.europe-game.eu/index.php?members/regnum-italiae.2371/).

Judges and Awards
Our super-professional and mega-competent panel of judges is made up of some very well known members of our community:

Our judges will evaluate your submission and select the winners of our various awards such as: Overall Best, Best European Writing, Best Foreign Writing, Most Original Story, Best Character(s), Best Setting, and more!

Help

For any further question, contact either Regnum Italiae or Slavatania, we are here to help you! See you soon!

Gather 'round, young travellers, for today we declare open season in regards to interregional competitions...

These next few categories will comprise some of the most difficult challenges a creative mind can encounter in their journey through the land of yonder (for legal reasons Wonderland was not available).

This competition, the Lusitaníadas, will be a testament to the bonds that link Portugal to some of its most important allies: Europe, European Union and last, but definitely least, Suns Reach.

We hope to have a great turnout from other regions as well and want to lead this competition to a very successful conclusion, in which we (our judges) will determine the best works of art and creativity, so that we can properly sacrifice the relevant artists to the Creator: Piatinum bees.

Now, fellow nations of these NationStates, let us begin this race for the ultimate prize of establishing primacy amongst the art nerds!

Ready?

Set?

Go!

In your submissions:
  • Avoid including hate symbology, slurs or other kinds of possibly offensive language and iconography

  • Don't plagiarize

  • Refrain from using AI tools for the bulk of your work

How to submit?
    For the writing competition
    1. Write your text on a dispatch

    2. Send it to the respective judges via telegram or through our Discord channel

    For the remaining competitions

    1. Upload the image to a website such as Imgur

    2. Send it to the respective judges via telegram

    or simply

    1. Send it in our LinkDiscord Server

The Judging System
3 judges from different regions will oversee each competion and evaluate submissions according to objective measures of quality and their own personal taste, rating them on a scale from 1 to 10.

While the judges may choose honorary mentions, valueless digital medals will only be awarded to the top 3 of each competition.

Take into account that judges reserve the right to share or publish the artwork submited in dispatches announcing the winners.

    Drawing Rules

For the drawing contest competitors are free to draw whatever they want. However, competitors are incentivized to participate in mini-challenges which will grant them extra points beyond the judge's valuations. • Draw a personification of your Country (like Marianne for France or Uncle Sam for the US)

    • Include Max Barry (the creator of the website) in your drawing

    • Include an Owl (if you want to be specific, an Eurasian eagle-owl)

Competitors are limited to 1 submission.

NationStates Eurovision 2023 will take place between 1 and 15 May 2023 in The Haugen Matriarchy of St Scarlett's cultural capital, the beautiful snowy city of Snowby. St Scarlett previously won the contest in Eurovision 2022 which was hosted by The Grand Falconer of Europe of The New Nordic Union

Hosted at the Polaris Arena, home to Snowby's legendary women's ice-hockey team, the Polar Bears, nations from across NationStates will compete to show the world what makes them

So, How Does It Work?

NationStates Eurovision is an inter-regional song competition held once a year. Every competing nation sends a musical artist or group who will then compete against the musical artists or groups of the other competing nations.

The competition is divided into two parts, the Semi-Finals and the Grand Final. The top 5 artists or groups from each Semi-Final will enter the Grand Final where all competing nations will be able to vote on who will be declared the winner of NationStates Eurovision 2023.

The Scoring System

Every competing nation will vote rating the other entries using the Eurovision scoring system, 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1. This can be done by sending a telegram to St Scarlett with a list of the 10 nations you would like to vote for in each of the three groups and which score you give each one.

Please pay close attention to the rules below as well as the voting instructions on the Semi-Finals page.

In the Semi-Finals the five nations with the highest scores will advance to the Grand Final where another vote will take place, you dont have to be in the Grand Final to vote.

Additionally, the scores of the two nations in 6th place for each Semi-Final will be compared and the nation with the highest score will also qualify to the Grand Final.

In the Grand Final the 3rd, 2nd and 1st places will be awarded but only the top scoring nation will be crowned the winner of NationStates Eurovision 2023 and given the opportunity to host the competition in 2024.
