The Constitution (WIP)

The Constitution of the United Galactic States is the supreme law of the nation. The Constitution deals with forming the system and protecting civil liberties. It provides the law in which the system has to follow.

If a president is elected, or a member of the Grand Senate is elected, they have to read out the entire constitution publicly.

Sections and Articles

Section I: The System

Article I: The Grand Senate shall be established, to provide a check and balance to the President, and oversee legislative laws. The Senate shall be unicameral, with members being in only one house, being the Grand House. The Senate is unicameral in that members of it, when making laws, stay in the same place together.
Although it is unicameral, there are multiple houses, called the Lower Houses, which are for different purposes. For example, if members agree to write in an economical law, they travel to one of the Lower Houses that is an economic house, to debate and vote on the laws.
The Senate shall be formed to defend the Constitution, and oversee the President, to ensure they don’t purge on the rights and freedoms of the People.

Article II: The President shall be democratically elected by the People of the UGS. To win, the president must win the popular vote, more than their respective candidates.
When elected, the President shall read the entire Constitution publicly and swear an oath to protect it: “I, (insert name here), shall be known as the leader of The United Galactic States, and shall serve to protect the People, the system, and the Constitution from total annihilation, even if it means my own”.

Article III: Political Parties and organizations like them in which gain political power are abolished. All political candidates must run as independents.

Article IV: If The Senate or President wants to amend the Constitution, it shall be a complicated process. First, there must be a debate at the Upper House to vote on whether to implement the chosen bill. Then, the vote must be given to the People to decide. Then, the Senate and President must vote on it.

Section II: Civil Rights and Freedoms

Article I: Freedom of The Press shall be enforced. However, no media establishment, no matter how independent, shall be publicly funded. The News shall be a private organization.

Article II: Freedom of Religion, Thought, and Ideologies shall be enforced. Discrimination based on one’s political, religious, and other views, shall be illegal.

Article III: Slavery, and the non-consensual ownership of another human being, unless the “ownership” is parenting, shall be illegal.

Article IV: Discrimination based on Race, Gender/Sex, Age, National Origin/Heritage, and Politics shall be illegal. Equality under The Law shall be enforced.
