Six Chapters of Gallifrey

Gallifreyan society is organized into six Chapters or Colleges which (alongside the Great Houses) form a cornerstone of their culture. These Chapters are politico-economic factions, each of which is represented on the High Council by at least one "Prime Cardinal". The modern Chapters are based on the six founders of Gallifrey: Rassilon (Prydon), Omega (Arcal), "the Other" (Patrex), Apeiron the Warrior (Drome), Pandak the First (Scendeles), and Eutoynar (Cerulean). However, there is much debate among Time Lords as to the accuracy of this list (some records list Gimel, Thremix, amd Jelen as among the Founders of Gallifrey alongside Rassilon, Omega, and the Other). The Chapter are also known by color, so Prydon is sometimes called the "Scarlet Chapter" and Arcal the "Emerald Chapter".

Each Chapter has their own Academy. Most of the members of each chapter embody certain traits. A Gallifreyan's initial chapter is usually chosen based on their personality and talents at age 8. Some (though not all) of Gallifrey's Great Houses are affiliated with one specific Chapter and all of it's members will attend that Chapter's Academy. Membership to a Chapter is not limited to Time Lords and most common Gallifreyans are affiliated with at least one Chapter.

Each Chapters is headquartered out of a Chapterhouse akin to the physical residences of the Great Houses. So-called "Chapterhouse Guard" are branches of the Watch maintained by each Chapter and typically guard the Chapter's Academy and headquarters.

Each Chapter is led by a Chapter Council comprised of all Cardinals in the Chapter. It is the Chapter Council that elects a Prime Cardinal to be the overall leader of their Chapter and represent them on the High Council of Gallifrey.

When wearing "traditional" or "ceremonial" clothing, Gallifreyans aligned with a Chapter wear the colors of their Chapter while Gallifreyans not affiliated with a Chapter wear black and/or white (black appears to indicate an allegiance to no chapter while white might indicate alligence to all chapters). It is also acceptable to wear the colors of the current President's Chapter. Some Gallifreyans choose to wear the colors of their Chapter (or the Chapterof the current President) at all times but this is neither mandated or socially required. Gallifreyan Jesters are known to wear multicolored clothing Field uniforms of Celestial Intervention Agents are black.

Prydonian Chapter: Prydonians are plotters, decision-makers, and liars. With a Prydonian, everything is done for a reason, even if the reason may not be immediately evident to someone who isn’t said Prydonian. They’re the type of person who would back up their argument with an 11 page long paper with multiple citations. They’re also very good at talking themselves out of a situation, or creating a diversion. It is said that one could not take their eyes off them for a second (a common Gallifreyan proverb was "mind those wearing scarlet robes").

The Prydonians are also known for their ambition. Even though they are cunning, they can sometimes be impulsive and driven by their values, sometimes speaking over others or not wanting to compromise. Many Prydonians love power, and some have been corrupted by it (for example, Rassilon). They can be both extroverted or introverted; and even introverted Prydonians are good at making the spotlight follow them, even though they may not enjoy being caught under it.

Due to their nature, many Prydonians pursue careers in politics and administration. Indeed, the Prydonian Chapter is the most politically active (and most politically powerful) of the six Chapters, with most Presidents of Gallifrey having been graduates of the Prydon Academy. The Prydonian Academy was also notorious for producing more Renegades than any of the other five Chapters combines. The colors of the Prydonian Chapter are scarlet, orange, crimson and gold.

Arcalian Chapter: Members of the Arcalian Chapter are very inquisitive and curious, making them good scientists. Indeed, the Arcalian Chapter is dedicated to science and technical expertise, and holds many of Gallifrey's foremost scientists and temporal engineers. Arcalians keep Gallifrey moving forward, always coming up with new ideas. They are also very logical, and although it may not seem like it at first glance, they do tend to have reasons for their actions. They can also forget basic needs in pursuit of their projects, foregoing food, water, and sleep.

While they love to study it, most Arcalians dislike actually interacting with the outside universe, and rarely leave their TARDISes when off world. Even on Gallifrey they tend to be quite solitary. Arcalians tend to know quite a lot of information, and will talk your ear off if they decide you’re a safe person to infodump to. Arcalians can also be opportunistic, siding with the most politically advantageous side, and because of their close relationships with people in power, they can gain power by proxy. Because of this, the Arcalians are the second most politically powerful Chapter on Gallifrey (after the Prydonians). The colors of the Arcalian Chapter are emerald green, brown, and bronze.

Patrex Chapter: Patrexes are the most artistic Chapter of Gallifrey, and tend to approach anything they are very interested as a form of art, including science and history. Indeed, many Patrexes are artists, aesthetes, librarians, and philosophers who see artistic value in everything (even pain and suffering). They’re one of the most hands-on Chapters, both when venturing outside of the Citatdel to find out something as well as sometimes being more physically affectionate than the rest of the chapters. They are know for the far away looks they carry on their faces, but most lack any true imagination. Practically everything created by the hands of a Patrexes is exceptionally beautiful but ultimately pointless. Many Patrexes are explorers, and see the beauty in something that may remain unnoticed because it’s been around for so long.

Patrexes can sometimes be seen as childish, especially when their interests are in more abstract art or concepts, or when they start dozing off in the middle of a meeting. The other Chapters keep them more grounded, and help them actually stay focused on the projects that they are so excited about. They are known for compulsively cataloguing everything. The Patrex Chapter is the third most politically powerful Chapter on Gallifrey. It is also known as the "Patrexean Chapter". The colors of the Patrex Chapter are dark fuchsia and heliotrope.

Scendeles Chapter: The Scendeles Chapter is not well known to most outside of Gallifrey and is often even ignored by those on Gallifrey, but they are as important to the society as the other chapters are. This chapter is the most stable, and they are very self-disciplined. They are typically good at mathematics, or at least enjoy it, and are caring for others. Most non-Time Lord Gallifreyans are Scendeles and the Chapter dominates the Civil Service. Without the Scendles Chapter, life on Gallifrey would grind to a halt. Despite this, they are one of the politically weakest Chapters on Gallifrey.

They are also one of the most individualistic chapters and can persist in something even to the point where it is harmful to them. Like the Cerulean and Dromeian chapters, one of the worst problems for a Scendeles can come when they are ignored, or expected to take on too much of an emotional burden without proper appreciation. The colors of the Scendles Chapter are beige and cream.

Dromeian Chapter: Dromeians are the dreamers and philosophers of Gallifreyan society. Many members of the Chapter typically become either academicians or bureaucrats. They are one of the few Chapters aside from the Patrexes to show any clear interest in religion, although their interest is very academic and of recording the history thereof. Dromeians are interested in many academic subjects, and are logical like Arcalians, making them clear-minded and confident in their decisions.

Dromeians are primarily observers, and like to see all sides of an issue and keep the peace. They love organizing and archiving. When they get absorbed in their interests, they can be very isolated from the rest of the world, but they still are very friendly people if they are discussing a common interest. They are one of the Chapters that is most skilled at being a teacher, librarian, or religious leader.

Because they make such an effort to be unbiased, they can fail to stand up for issues that need a champion, making them one of the less political chapters. A Dromeian’s fatal flaw tends to be isolating themselves too much in academia and ignoring the world, and the other Chapters can help ground them in the current time and place by engaging with them about their interests and not making them constantly be the mediator. The colors of the Dromeian Chapter are silver and gray.

Cerulean Chapter: Ceruleans are the Chapter that is the most connected to the nature of Gallifrey, and this is the source of the joke that they are “plant touchers” because they will actually go outside - not just to investigate things, but because they love nature and caring for animals and plants. They are also one of the most social chapters, and need a strong community in order to be mentally healthy. Many gardeners, social activists and "agriculturists" are from the Cerulean Chapter. Like the Arcalians, they can become very obsessed with their work, although their main motivation is helping people, which makes them different from Arcalians who want to learn everything for its own sake.

Because they are so focused on taking care of others, Ceruleans may forget to take care of themselves. If they neglect themselves for too long, they can become bitter and combative, accusing others of not caring for them. A Cerulean really should never be alone because of this, as it isn’t a healthy way to live. The other Chapters help stabilize them and remind them to take care of themselves. Ceruleans, like Patrexeans, are not particularly political, except for when it comes to laws about environmental protection. The colors of the Cerulean Chapter are light pastel blue and cyan.
