Chancellor Aescius Avus Aurelius re-elected for his seventh term.

By Dante Koralian | 24.March.2021

AETHIAN CITY (AP) — The Legislative Council (LegCo) re-elects Chancellor Aescius Avus Aurelius for his seventh term on Wednesday. Chancellor Aurelius has faithfully served since 1996, leading the country through crisis after crisis. In his acceptance speech on the steps of the Capitol Complex, the Chancellor declared, “AESLAND STRONK!!!” to which his supporters responded with deafening cheer. Chancellor Aurelius’ newly released 6-month agenda focuses on the bolstering of the military and the increase of the nuclear weapons stockpile, citing the increased tensions with Ibarkla. This report sparked some concern within the center-left coalition, but the LegCo remains firmly united in defending the Republic and support the Chancellor’s mobilization efforts.

The newly formed Aeslandian Federal government was finalized on Monday, with a center-left coalition in power. The 2020 federal elections saw an unprecedented shift towards the left, with the center-left coalition winning in the largest landslide in Aeslandian history. The center-left government holds 982 of the 1200 seats in National Assembly.

President of the National Assembly Antois de Bástilleir (3A) begins his first term President after narrowly defeating Toif Egalimus (ASS) in a 503-479 vote; all opposition members abstained in protest. Earlier today, President de Bástilleir met with Speaker of the Senate Uwulaimon Owoza (Tech.) who was elected for a third term as Speaker on Tuesday. Both insisted on fast tracking new sanctions on Ibarkla after preliminary investigations show attempted Ibarklan interference in the 2020 election. Opposition Leader Senator Nikolai Yogonuvich (CCP) fiercely opposed these actions in a press conference which ended in a shoe-throwing brawl.

The 300 seat Senate is also firmly in control of the center-left (213). In an unforeseen move, the Big Business Party has joined the center-left coalition, securing them the supermajority.
