Ork Subcultures

DA KULT OF SPEED
Some Orks, especially Evil Sunz, become addicted to the sensation of speed and join the Speed Freeks, the name for those Greenskins who belong to the Da Kult of Speed, whose members rarely if ever get out from behind the handlebars or steering wheels of their light vehicles. These grinning lunatics roar into battle ahead on exhaust-belching jalopies and crude but effective flying machines, intent on getting into the thick of the fighting before their ground-pounding comrades. Due to the large number of vehicles in each Speed Freek warband, they often have several Mekboyz amongst their number to keep the Battlewagons and other vehicles and aircraft running smoothly. Sometimes it is even a Mekboy, who leads the warband as a Big Mek or even a Mekboss. The obsession with speed can affect any Ork -- so it is possible to find Orks from different klanz in a Speed Freek force.

FREEBOOTERZ
The Freebooterz, put simply, are a subculture of Ork space pirates. Freebooter warbands are composed of an amalgam of Ork mobs from several different warbands or Orks who have separated themselves from their former Klan or tribe by choice or through exile. These roving bands are composed of renegades, bandits, pirates and other outcasts. Some of these Orks are fugitives, eccentrics and the remnants of shattered greenskin tribes and Klanz, so it is hardly surprising that many Freebooterz have very treacherous and unpleasant characters indeed- even by Ork standards. Often they will employ what the Imperium has named the "Jolly Ork" skull and crossbones icon, a universal symbol of all Freebooterz. These pirate Orks are known to use this sigil to adorn their banners, clothes and vehicles. Freebooterz are also recognized by the rag-tag appearance of their Ork bioniks, due to their lack of access to Painboyz or Mekboyz. Their injuries are often superficially treated, thus many Freebooterz sport peg-legs, hooks for hands and eye-patches. The band is usually led by a hardened Warboss who prefers the title "Kaptin." These individuals are the biggest, strongest and most cunning cutthroat Orks within these mercenary warbands. They dress even more flamboyantly than their fellow Ork Freebooterz, often sporting large tricorne hats and thick greatcoats that can conceal numerous weapons.

FERAL ORKS
Feral Orks are Orks who are grown from the fungal reproductive spores released by spaceborne Orks and left behind on the world they've already assaulted. Feral Orks can also be derived from an original population of spaceborne Orks stranded on a world who effectively devolve back to a feral state, losing their access to more advanced technology. Feral Orks, while less advanced than their fellow Greenskins, do have access to a variety of wargear in their armory. However, much of it works due to the strange effects it has on the mind and behavior of the Ork, rather than actually producing a physical effect upon the enemy. These Orks maintain a comparatively low level of pre-industrial technology, using bows, axes, clubs, and boar or Squig-pulled chariots. Feral Orks often never advance beyond a Neolithic or, at best, Iron Age level of technology. Unlike most Orks, who favor close combat, Feral Orks are better at ranged warfare, though that's not to say that they're not monstrous in melee fights. Sometimes, a standard Ork WAAAAAGH!!! will come across a band of Feral Orks on a world they have invaded, and will add them to their Greenskin horde on the way, providing them with Shootas, Power Klaws, and all manner of advanced technology to aid in the further expansion of their WAAAAAGH!!!.
