The Political System

"New Highermoon is a strange country, it is both a nation and a socialist state at the same time. It lives under democracy and a modern form of mob rule at the same time. It should be falling apart at the seams, and yet it does not."
- Mariannah Fuyatrez at a talk on national security.

Political System
The Highermoonian political system consists of a parliamentary democracy, and local democracy. The police, industry and ministries are also politicized, and have their own elections (so, you can vote for your company's policy. elections are held once 5 years. Because of the this the New Highermoonian political system is constantly changing, but nonetheless very democratic and stable. The Federal Congress votes on how to run the country, and the Elected Provincial Congresses decide who should participate in the Federal congress, and direct voting decides who should run the Provincial Congress. the Congress has 350 seats, the head of the federal council is Alykul Zhusupov. He manages the council but has no national power. The Prime Minister of the republic is Rosannah Presovská, but she mostly represents the nation internationally, and performs traditional and national functions.

The united front: 245 seats, 3 parties, 70% - the united front is the current ruling coaltion, consisting of socialist and social democratic parties. Altough the dominant party has shifted over the years, they have held a stable grasp over the congress. However, recent social and economic issues are eroding the people's trust in the ruling parties, will their grip hold strong in the face of crisis?

Democratic coalition:
- conservatives, liberals and centrists herded together after the civil war, the democratic coalition is the last beacon of the republic before the war. Because anti-socialism is one of their only overlapping viewpoints working together is difficult, and parties are having to compromise with the left and right. Will the centre hold?

The Red front : - unstatisfied with the united front coalition, the red people's front sees the government as a fake socialist state, because they ally themselves with capitalists and use market economic systems. their viewpoints however vary from anti-revisionism, to utopianism to anarchism, will the people's front be able to grow big enough to dismantle the United front, or will the front forever live in the shadow of the revisionists?

Saints
Saints have existed in New Highermoon since before the era of Suzerainity. Unlike the Techfordshirean saints the Highermoonian Saints weren't selected by the church, but rather by the people themselves. If a saint dies a new candidate can propose himself. And if a majority of citizens agree that the candidate is good enough they will be instituted as Saint. Saints used to run tribes and even cities, but nowadays they are just awarded with a cool staff and have to attend any openings associated with their speciality.
There are saints for: Public transport, Long and empty distances, Abandoned places, creation and transformation (no one is sure what the latter entails) Animals, Death and many more less important ones
Saints have not been religiously affiliated since the 1920's.

The four tenets of the state
As outlined by the father of the nation, Stanislav Volarevic, there are 4 points necessary for the continued existence and stability of new highermoon, they go as follows.

Welfare: If the majority of the population can see the benefits of socialism, liberalism or whatever ideology rules, they will be likely to support it. If those people have no food, no home, no healthcare, then they will blame this on the state, and extremist parties can take power, as we saw before in Irenfell and Northring.

Ideology: If a nation allows its citizens to develop their sense of ideology, to understand politics and to and to fully support and ideology they should also be given to freedom to practice this ideology in clubs, workplaces and organisations even when it is not official government policy. this means supporters of an ideology can find ways to express that in art, work and culture, and this allows both new ideas to enter circulation quickly and labourers to work harder.

Democracy: When the state cracks down on political dissidents, when the state is impervious to change then the only way to bring about even minor political change is trough revolution or the death of the leader, which can bring about the complete destruction of the state. Democracy gives socialism/liberalism/nationalism a safe way to mutate, which may jeopardise the state ideology, but will secure the state.

Unity: Unity, also called "Unity in pluralism" is the concept that the New Highermoonian state should never endorse or cater specifically to the will of a single religion or ethnic group, and that all groups living in a state should mantain their culture and religion, while still seeing themselves and people with different views and backgrounds then them as New Highermoonians. If fractures and outsiders are allowed to exist then it will be easy for racist, counterrevolutionary and seperatist elements to grow, since there is no "outside", "foreign" or "dominant" culture
