Birthday Celebrations – Caer Sidi turns five
by CSBS Staff

As was announced in the last issue of the CSBS, on the 23rd of May, Caer Sidi reached its fifth birthday. Celebrations had already begun on the 21st of May, the birthday of Queen Aynia Moreaux.

Consisting of a special category in the regional Discord Server, the theme of the celebrations was “Masquerade”, with a Masquerade Ball for the inhabitants of Caer Sidi at the heart. The ball offered a stage for in character interaction and was open to all willing participants and saw its last recorded activity on the 31st of May, as well as several supporting channels allowing users to elaborate on the characters attending the ball.

On the day of the Anniversary itself, Aynia Moreaux commemorated the Occasion with the following announcement:

"Happy official birthday, Caer Sidi! I just wanted to post a little speech here and on the RMB for this wonderful occasion. I tend to gush a bit at you guys every year with how wonderful the region is because of you all, but this year... this year is a special year. We've made it to FIVE ya'll. That is truly an accomplishment. And not to brag, but let me brag on you for just a moment. Caer Sidi is not one of the, it is THE nicest, most welcoming, friendly, wholesome region that I've had the pleasure of being a part of. CS is known by those who know us in NS as an awesomely wholesome and friendly region, full of people who readily accept newcomers. 5 years ago when CS was founded, my personal vision was a little ambiguous. I knew I wanted it to do well, but I really had no idea how well it would do or for how long. Caer Sidi has become more than I ever imagined, and the sheer wonderfulness of this community fills me with awe. I won't lie, it's a little intimidating at times, because we hold a very high standard. But ya'll make it easy. Lynxi and I may have planted the seed for CS way back in the day, but what's truly made it grow and flourish has been the love and attention given to it by it's members. Our lore is pretty vast, we have a codified set of laws, treaties with other prominent and awesome regions. We're sitting on a pretty good reputation and are almost back at our highest ever nation count. Life is being good to Caer, because you guys are good to Caer. I just can't stress enough how heartwarming it is to have the honour of overseeing such a wonderful community. Here's to another five years, Caer Sidi.
With all my loves, Ayu"

Through the five years of its existence, Caer has undergone many structural changes, but through it all, it has been able to rely on its community. While the CSBS was established only in January 2020, we hope to continue to accompany the region on its way forward, wherever it may take us!

A great undertaking – The third NSGE
by Kresh Nagar

From the 21st to the 24th of May, the NationStates Great Exhibition (NSGE) opened its gates to the public for its third edition. Like many other regions, Caer Sidi maintained a exhibit at the event, offering people from all over NationStates a glance at our region.

The NSGE is an organization that seeks to offer a platform for “sharing the collective wisdom of NationStates” by giving experienced members of the community the opportunity to broadcast their knowledge in one of the many panels or talks at the event. It also brings together players from different regions to socialize.

Caer Sidis very own Aynia Moreaux worked as co-host on the first event of the exhibition, a panel on building leadership. In total, this NSGE played host to 11 different panels and talks on a variety of subjects, from Military Gameplay to regional administration.
The event ended on the 24th, with a vague promise of a return in the next year.

Maple's Maybe Random Thoughts
by Eareamland

I entitle this edition: Maple rants randomly about LEGO technic, engines, and nothing else crossing through her mind at 2:33 AM - 2:57 AM on a night between friday and saturday

So recently I ordered around 110 LEGO technic pieces to build a V10- wait this needs context.
SO BASICALLY engines are divided into 3 main categories: an Inline engine (I or S, the pistons form a straight line), a V engine (V, the pistons are separated by an angle), and W engines which is gluing either 2 V's or 1 V and 1 I together.
There's also boxers but nobody cares about them.
So recently I ordered around 110 LEGO technic pieces to build a 10-cylinder V engine and 6-speed manual transmission because why not.
This is related, listen.

I previously built a boxer 2 and an inline 2 that I wanna give a new crankshaft to so the pistons fire at the same time because that sounds based but isn't.

Most cars on the road, or at least econobox cars, you have an I4 engine under the hood. An engine where there are 4 pistons, in a line, and this configuration is absolute garbage and here's why:
-Sure, they're cheap.
-BUT, they're not smooth.
To explain smoothness you gotta understand something about how an engine works. The piston (I'll just use piston to refer to both the head and the connecting rod because I'm lazy) connects to the crankshaft, but not on the central point
of it, or else you know, it wouldn't move at all. I just alt-tabbed to an ASMR video and forgot what I was gonna talk about.
Oh yea so, in an inline 4 engine, each cylinder fires every 2 rotations of the crank (AKA, every 720 degrees of crank = piston fires). We have 4 pistons, 720 degrees of crankshaft rotation, and a piston MUST fire every 180 degrees.
Therefore, to figure out the crankshaft degrees per each fire, we just do some quick maths and 720/4-180=0. A power stroke CANNOT last longer than 180 degrees, meaning in a 4-piston engine, a piston is always firing independent of others.
However, with an inline 6, 720/6-180=-60. There are 60 degrees of overlap. This is good. This is mucho bueno. This means the power delivery of the inline 6 is smoother than that of an inline 4.
But an inline 6 is big, so we need a small engine with overlap. That's where, in my opinion, Volvo shines. THE INLINE 5.

In an inline 5, we have 36 degrees of overlap. Not as much, but still quite smooth. Smoother than an inline 4.

Why am I talking about inline engines when I'm building a V? Good question, I do not know. What I know is inline 4 < inline 5 < inline 6. And that LEGO technic is cool and I love how complicated and at the same time simple it is
to make a speed transmission in LEGO technic. LEGO technic is fun.

What am I attempting to say? Good question, I have no clue.

LATE ADDITION TO THIS THAT I JUST GOT REMINDED TO DO!
I found an old Dell E6400 laptop with a Core 2 Duo 8800 (2.66ghz) and I installed penguin mint on it because why not. It is absolutely borked and barely works, some keys do nothing, at least it supports 64-bit OSes
it has a battery that is absolutely annihilated and a 250 gig hard drive. What it was doing in a drawer I do not know but it is mine now and I have named it COPCHILU (THE CHILD).

Anyway, enjoy your current time and weather and please continue transforming O2 into CO2 and remember: you shouldn't be like me and you should remember things.

Satire: Returning to our roots – the resurgence of the Carrot Plague
by Kresh Nagar

Long time CSBS readers may remember our coverage of the Carrotanthropromorphism. This disease, thought to be eradicated after its initial spread in August 2020, has shocked Caers scientific community with its rapid resurgence in early May 2022, infecting old and new citizens alike.

This new strain of the disease appears to be a mutation, displaying similar symptoms, most notably the gradual transformation of the afflicted into a carrot, while avoiding the countermeasures and immunities developed against the original outbreak.
Our investigation uncovered that the denizens of Caer Sidi were spared the mind-altering effects of the first iteration of the disease that induced a mass delusion of a “Carrot Cult”. The only documented exception to this is Icarus, a survivor of the first outbreak. It is however likely that the new pathogen merely reactivated a lingering remnant of the first infection, rather than possessing any innate mind-altering properties.

Normalcy seems to have returned to Caer Sidi, as the majority of infected have reverted to their initial state, the disease once again proving itself to be a temporary affliction. Among the few still infected are notably Queen Aynia (Aynia Moreaux) and Master of Whispers Krytore (Fabulas oblivione delebitur).

The Regent of Caer Sidi, Cpt. Carrot (currently Ayurrot) (TiroDayn), who is generally accepted to have been the source of the first outbreak, has stated his dismay at the failure to prevent this blight from returning, while also extending his sympathy to the many who have been, and still are, afflicted. He has further commented on his state of de-carrotification, explaining that it is not directly related to the plague, but rather a mechanism of comic balance, preventing the accumulation of a critical mass of Carrots.

While the source of the resurgence remains unknown, there are some unsubstantiated rumors of a gremlin-like creature having purposefully unleashed the disease in order to trigger the Carrot displacement, although it is unclear to which ends. Ultimately, the origins of this terrible plight remain as mysterious as ever, but Caer Sidi has once again weathered the storm.
