The rigs

by Stuckiniceland

The community consists of 5 different rigs, each with a different purpose. Luna is the biggest rig of them all and consists of mostly living quarters and crafting stations. It also houses the council hall where all the council members come to vote. Lincoln is the second largest rig and it’s primarily focused on defending the rigs. It has one giant hall for the maintenance of the ships and a factory for the sea mines that surround all the rigs. Lincoln’s brother rig, Nyko, has the polar opposite of him and is tasked with the welfare of everyone on the rigs. Think about things such as medicine, disease control & item production. Echo is an old rig which was abandoned because its old function, food and drinking water production, was deemed necessary because of the new Ilian & Adria sectors on each rig, which would produce all the food and drinking water the rigs needed. This also removed the need to transport the food. Its new function is to act as a base for all the expeditions & scouting, which has been made more important after being discovered by another nation. While expeditions have been going on even before Echo existed, it only happened in small groups to get stuff such as dirt & seeds. But now that StuckInIceland has been brought on to the map again scouting & expeditions became more important. Madi is one of the newer rigs. Constructed out of tin air with the metal that scavenged from sunken ships and other things they found on the bottom of the sea. It doesn’t have a primary function yet, but will soon be given one and then changed to fit the requirements for that function. Because Madi is still new it doesn’t have a radio system in place and still needs to exchange messages via the sailfishes.

The Capitol
After what people believe to be 400 years after the manifestation of StuckInIceland the capitol, Daunwodar, was completed. The capital is the only "city" in StuckInIceland which does not bear the name of the first ruler of the city because of the respect they want to pay to their dead, who are also underwater. The capitol is mainly used just for living but can also function as a bunker in case of an attack. And because of that it is the only "city" which has all the traits the other rigs have, because of that if needed people can live inside it while it’s sealed off for at least 5 years. Food and water is produced the same way as the rigs but only with machines and farms being almost 10x the size of the topwater versions. The capitol is situated around 0,8 nautical miles under the sea and has 2 floors. It’s surrounded with reinforced concrete of around 2 meters thick and with another layer of chromium on top which is 0,5 meters thick and finally on the inside a steel layer of 1,37 meters thick. Access to the inside is mainly done via one of the 7 airlocks which are located around the border of the capitol while cargo goes via the cargo airlock which is directly connected to the train rails so the cargo can go to its designated area. Transport to the airlocks is either with one of the 2 submarines located at the rigs or via boat and scuba diving. The airlocks are hidden inside makeshift shipwrecks and can only be opened with a special keycard which only a select few people have. If opened otherwise it seals shut with an extra layer of 25 cm thick titanium dropping from the ceiling and making the area in between the titanium wall and the outer door a vacuum. The main form of travel inside the capitol is either with one of the 4 train lines or walking. The train and the capitol itself runs on electricity generated from the 4 massive hydro-generators and 2 reserve generators, which are all located under the capitol.

The Galactic RepubIlic!
The History of TGR
Provided by the State Information Bureau, Compiled from Old Records
————————————————————————————————————
EARLY HISTORY
The nation of TGR did not exist at this point. Instead, a collection of tribes covered most of modern day TGR. There were 3 main tribes: The Du’ock Tribe, the Shimley Tribe, and the Orhang Tribe. The Du’ock Tribe was dedicated to the principles of Peace, Liberty and Prosperity, while the Shimley and Orhang Tribes fought. The long wars between the two tribes weakened both, allowing the Du’ock Tribe to become the leader of all three tribes. Eventually, they united to form the Albitine Confederation, which promptly elected Chief Wa’shan as it’s first leader. Wa’shan followed the Du’ock principles, and expanded the Confederation’s borders into what is now modern-day Coldian. However, foreign powers soon invaded the Confederation, leaving it helpless to what was to come.
COLONY PERIOD
In 1246, the nation of Haoplae conquered what was the former Confederation. However, the Hapolae were not clueless, and gave a measure of autonomy to the tribes. Using this autonomy, the tribes formed a prime advisory body: the Grand Council. The Council was accepted to be the prime legislative body, and formed social rules that citizens had to abide by. Around this point, the city of Ashook began forming as the hub of the former Confederation lands, and became the prime area to do commerce in. Trade with other countries began to occur, and especially with the various nations to it’s south.
FREEDOM PERIOD AND EARLY DEVELOPMENT OF TGR
In 1321, the Hapolae were routed at the Battle of Hardfon by enemies of Hapolae, and their remnants fled to the former Confederation lands. Sensing an opportunity, the Grand Council had a milita take the Hapolae leader hostage, and forced him to sign a treaty granting the supposed colony of “Rethan” independence, finally freeing the former Confederation lands. However, without the overlordship of the Hapolae, the Grand Council had little sway over the former Confederation lands, and it collapsed into chaos. Brother fought brother, as the whole country devolved into the First National Civil War. However, a group of former Hapolae descendants managed to take control over the entire former Confederation in 1345, and established themselves as chief rulers of the land.
THE SHAWN DYNASTY
Under their reign, the country recovered and prospered, while they established social norms across the country. In order to supposedly “civilize” the country, Ashook was renamed to Orhill, and the country established itself as the Kingdom of Rethania. The King of Rethania, Rupert, established the first truly legislative body, the High Parliament, in 1376, which was tasked with creating laws and running the country in the King’s absence. While an appointed body, it still was a large step towards democracy. Rupert also pursued centralization, with all business in running the country taking place in Orhill. In 1456, King Ferdinand pursued greater centralization, and ordered the High Parliament dissolved. What ensued was a 3 year long civil war, which eventually lead to King Ferdinand allowing the nobles to choose from among themselves the members of the High Parliament. Though still undemocratic, it was again a major step towards democracy. The body produced a charismatic leader, known only as Lord George. Lord George began plotting an overthrow of the Shawn Dynasty, and found much popular support in doing this. In 1523, the bloodless revolution forced King Aaron of the Shawn dynasty to abdicate, leaving his 2 year old son as leader.
THE FERUL DYNASTY
The 2 year old was obviously unfit to rule, so the High Parliament formed a “regency” council, electing Lord George as it’s leader. Through a series of political moves, the young king was forced to abdicate in favor of Lord George. George reorganized the nation once again, creating a code of laws that seemed needed but were surprisingly absent from the original constitution, such as succession laws, which had allowed George to maneuver his way to King. George also allowed females to take the throne. George’s rule was cut short by a tragic hunting accident, and he was replaced by the first ever female ruler, Queen Lileas. Lileas oversaw a period of innovation, ingenuity and creativity, known as the High Period, or the Golden Age. In this period of time, the economy prospered, as the old ways of doing things were replaced by new, innovative methods. One of these things was serfdom, which had been in place since 1352. The serfs were freed, and the High Parliament divided undeveloped land among these freed serfs, creating the basis for a new noble class to replace the old one. But all good things come to an end, and with the passing of Lileas in 1578. Uncertainty reigned, and in the confusion, the High Parliament was overthrown by the Under Parliament. This new body was an elected one, creating the foundations for the modern Assembly today. Lileas’s son, King Harry, reigned in a time of decline. Known as the Dark Times, the economy stagnated, innovation disappeared, and even books faded from the minds of citizens. Lasting almost 20 years, from 1580-1597, it caused great misery to the population. It only ended when King Harry personally visited every town, village and city, and began a massive infrastructure program. This new program sparked merchant activity, and trade picked up. Harry also funded the arts, sparking the First Golden Age of TGR Culture. Paintings, books, sculptures, every important TGR work of art was made during this time. Harry himself was a great admirer of the theatre, visiting it almost every other day. Unfortunately, this also lead to his downfall. In 1634, Harry was shot at the Alkuuk Theatre in Orhill by a tribal nationalist, ending his reign and that of his dynasty’s.
REPUBLIC PHASE
Years of chaos and dysfunction followed Harry’s death, culminating in the declaration of the Rethanian Republic in 1645. The Republic was a Presidential Democracy, and it’s leaders elected by the nobility. The Republic replaced a prosperous regime with a stagnate one, and the Republic suffered many years of massive decline. Even things such as books began to disappear, and the once great status of the country was brought to ruin. In 1712, the country was brought back to normalcy when it elected Sir Joseph Witherspoon, a former general/explorer who descended from Hapolae ancestry, as President. However, Witherspoon soon quickly revealed the true nature of his regime.
WITHERSPOON REGIME
Witherspoon declared himself Lord Protector of TGR in 1717, and dissolved all local governments. Witherspoon pursued massive centralization, and though his regime was very repressive, it also brought many reforms and advancements to the country. Of note was the cotton gin, which revolutionized agriculture and production of cotton. This quickly made the nobility rich, and created social classes that long outlasted the Witherspoon regime. While the nobility partied and feasted upon grand meals every night, not all was well in the country. Though serfdom was long abolished, the long-lasting impacts of it meant that former serfs often stayed poor, with very few becoming wealthy, or even middle class. The poor quickly realized their unfortunate position, brewing the perfect storm of militancy that allowed for Witherspoon to be toppled. In 1729, Witherspoon declared himself as God of All TGR, which was too far for even the nobility. Unwilling to recognize such a sin against their own religion, the nobility funded the militant peasant groups, in fear of being forced to convert to his “religion.” Unable to recognize this, Witherspoon was overthrown in 1731.
TRANSITION PERIOD
What followed Witherspoon’s removal could only be described as absolute chaos. The centralization that Witherspoon pursued may have strengthened his power, but at the expense of the rule of law if he ever died or was removed. The lack of any strong authority created a power vacuum that many groups filled. First among them was the Peasant Militia, which was a decentralized but large group of angry peasants, many of which were untrained in military combat. The second was the TGR Military, which was a highly trained but very small organization, as Witherspoon preferred to fund his own private army. Speaking of which, the third group was the “Escadron De La Mort,” or the “Death Squad.” This Death Squad was an organization that was supposed to strike fear into the hearts of Witherspoon’s political enemies or political dissidents. Yet, it had to adapt to the changing situation, and it combined both Military Tactics, Organization and Resources with Militia Numbers, Area Controlled and Motivation. As these groups consolidated their areas controlled and prepared for the inevitable conflict, the nobility remained silent and elusive throughout this period, preferring to keep their cards close to their chest, a strategy that they hoped would mean that they would come out on top in the end. Finally, the Second National Civil War began in 1734. Though the “Death Squad” held Orhill, the Military sieged it from February 1734- January 1735, starving the “Death Squad’s” forces into surrender. On other fronts, the Peasant Militia was able to capture significant ground in rural areas, a front where they obviously had the advantage. Still, by the end of 1735, the “Death Squad” still held most major cities, with most of them being along the coast. This prompted both the Peasant Militia and the Military to call a temporary ceasefire between them both, in order to better focus on the “Death Squad.” This strategy quickly overwhelmed the “Death Squad,” causing them to surrender in December 1735. An uneasy peace was maintained from 1735-1737, as both the Military and the Peasant Militia organized into two separate groups: the People’s Republic of TGR and the Military Junta of TGR, with both rebuilding and training/organizing up their forces to once more prepare for the inevitable conflict.
THE FINAL CONFLICT
What started out as a minor skirmish in 1741 between the Military Junta and political dissidents escalated into a full blown revolution, as it was uncovered that the Military Junta had been infiltrated by rural nationalists that were funded by the People’s Republic. The Military Junta collapsed into anarchy, and their previously formidable force fled the country into exile. In the power vacuum, the People’s Republic recognized that immediately swooping into the anarchical state would make the situation even more unstable. So, the leader of the People’s Republic, “Jeremiah Harvey,” made a deal with the local elite that gave them basic autonomy in exchange for their integration into the state. With this deal, the People’s Republic was able to crush Military remnants and bring order to the country. Following this, the People’s Republic established the Provisional Congress, in which delegates from every region of the country were to decide how the government of TGR was to be run. Though the Nobility advocated for absolute monarchy, and some radical farmers advocated for direct democracy, a compromise was reached in which a constitutional monarchy was to be established. This was done deliberately, in order to placate both the Nobility and the People. However, concerns over whom was to become monarch lead to an ensuing debate..
THE KINGDOM OF TGR
..which resulted in a very interesting candidate being selected as Queen. Known only as “Mary,” she descended from TGR nobility, and she was married to someone of an important foreign family. She was crowned as Mary I of TGR, and quickly her ruling style was uncovered. Mary, learning from the mistakes of previous rulers, did not centralize immediately after coming to power. Rather, she organized the current states into much more simpler provinces, and was instrumental in the passing of the Reorganization Act of 1746.
