Ask the Security Council!

Security Council Handbook

What is this about?

Security Councillors are trustworthy and experienced members of the region. But how much do you know about each of them individually? Don't worry, that's what Ask the Security Council is here for! Every week, Vice Delegate Gorundu will ask the Security Councillors a question on the regional message board, and you can see what the Security Councillors have to say about it. The questions could be about anything - whether it's about the Security Council specifically, about The North Pacific or NationStates in general, or even their lives outside of the game!

And in case you miss what the Security Councillors have to say each time, or you don't check the regional message board often, we'll keep a record of all their answers in this dispatch below so you can always look back and see what they have already answered.

What questions have they already answered?

How did you discover NationStates?

The blame lies with my son, Neonlake 🤣

It's May 2018.

He got fed up of hearing me play Candy Crush.

He said:

'I know you're old Dad, but you still have some intelligence left.'

'Why don't you play a game where you can create your own nation and make it the way you want it and play/interact on a political world stage.'

'It doesn't take long.'

'And you can join me with my mates in the north pacific.'

So here I am, coming up to nearly 5 years later, Neo hardly looks at NS anymore, all his mates have gone.

But I'm still here.........

I joined the TNP forum and discord, became a deputy minister and then a minister, became the Chancellor of TNPU and reached the heady heights of a security Councillor in December 2019.

I have really enjoyed my time on NS, I now spend a lot of time on the RMB, TNP forum and Discord.

I'm an ex LGA and current GA.

One of my NS highlights was actually meeting El Fiji Grande IRL last year. 😊

Former English Colony (original post here)

I had a friend who had made a nation, then introduced me to it while we were chatting. I made a few nations, and FEC was the 2nd one, loosely modeled on America. I enjoyed swinging the nations towards different goals. Although with only 30 issues at the time and almost no other customizability, it wasn't the most "true" take on anything. My friend has long since stopped playing, but I have kept these 2 nations alive for almost 20 years... haha

Once upon a time... it was early 2004, and my nephew was in college. He told his dad, my brother, about NS. I will never forget my brother describing the game to me, saying, "It only takes a couple of minutes a day." HA! It's been more like thousands of hours over the years. But clearly he was never destined to be a GCR Delegate.

When I started out, I didn't even know what a forum was. There was no Discord. We had an AOL chatroom. Very shortly after my first nation was created, UPS Rail became delegate, followed in rapid succession by Great Bight. Then all hell broke loose with mass bannings, and the entire region in disarray. That's when I became more than just a casual player.

I was looking for nation simulation games, and after some digging I came across this one. It looked pretty simple, and at the time I might have thought I would grow tired of it soon.

Turns out I didn't.

I don't even really recall how I found NS. Probably in the same way that many of us did though if I had to take a guess--I probably looked up "build your own nation" on the internet and found this site. And here we are.

Some person suggested a gaming group I was in try it out. I was the only person who tried it and stayed.

I wanted some nation-building game after playing cities skylines so this was the first one that popped up on google. Founded in TNP and went from there.

Can I ask a question to the Security Councillors?

You sure can! If you have a question you want to ask, simply contact Vice Delegate Gorundu with your question and it will be posted if it's suitable. Alternatively, if you want to ask a question to a specific Security Councillor or the Vice Delegate, simply contact them privately with your question, and they'll be more than happy to answer. You can find a list of Security Councillors here.
