Just three days ago, the private mercenary group Wagner attempted a mutiny against President Dyumin in response to the detention of their leader Prigozhin under corruption and treason charges. This mutiny was met with fierce resistance after Dyumin and Kadyrov special forces arrived in Rostov and engaged with the militants before negotiations ultimately halted their attack.

The failure to foil the plot before it began and the cowardly attitudes shown by the Ministry of Defense from certain figures who are not up to par anymore such as General Shoigu was later attacked by President Dyumin. Today, there has been concrete efforts by Dyumin and members of GRU Spetsnaz to deal with that incompetency and in accordance with insider knowledge from a former MoD spokesman, a purge is now underway in the Ministry of Defense.

Many high officials have been replaced or outright arrested by members of the GRU on charges of misconduct and corruption. Many figures such as General Gerasimov, General Shoigu, and General Surovikin have not been since the mutiny started. In their place, several GRU figures have taken high positions, with former member of the GRU and deputy of the FSB General Vladimir Kulishov recently being appointed as the Minister of Defense. Head of the Federal Protective Service, General Dimitry Kochnev has been appointed as Deputy Minister of Defenes.

Further reshuffles have seen head of the GRU Admiral Igor Kostyukov reportedly join a high ranking advisery position in the Ministry. Anatoly Chepiga of the GRU, who organized the assassination of Abdulvakhid Edelgiriyev, has also been reportedly promoted to a high position as a military officer. Finally, former GRU and former Minister of Defense of Donestk Igor Girkin has been appointed in official capacity to assist in the war planning.

The appointments have shown a clear bias to former intelligence officers, particularly those of military intelligence. This is of course understandable as President Dyumin was once a member of the Federal Protective Services, and a deputy of the GRU (the military intelligence wing of Russia).

It is yet to seen how this will affect the special military operation, but not much is expected to change overall. Nonetheless, the GRU maintains a reputation above that of many other military wings of the country, perhaps only bested by the Russian Air Force which still retains a spotless reputation in the eyes of Russians.
