FLIS News (English)
OLIS Jenal (Arnish)

Country: Ainslie

Network: AGIS Ainslie

Language: Various

Ownership: Independent, funded by Ahnslen Federal Government

Established: 13 January 2002

Availability: Isles-wide

Free-to-air: Channel 27 (Ainslie)

Radio: Various, mainly 890AM

FLIS News is an Ahnslen free-to-air television and radio service owned and operated by AGIS, a government enterprise formed out of the parts of Arindai that were not privatised as a part of economic reforms in the 1980s. The channel offers international news bulletins in a variety of languages, as well as local news delivered in a small group of languages. This is in contrast to Arnish and English programs, which are often run on individual dedicated channels for speakers of either language. For the purposes of classification, the default language of FLIS News is English.

Up until the early 2000s, Ahnslens who wished to access foreign language programs would either have to rely on long distance radio or satellite services. However, in 2000, the Ahnslen Government ordered the state-funded broadcaster to make a provision for radio and television bulletins in the major languages that Altera, Balnik, Lesva, Roendavar and Dormill and Stiura speak. This was done in the lead-up to the Baetylus event, where widespread and comprehensive coverage was seen as necessary to effectively offer emergency broadcasting to Ahnslens. As an additional benefit, radio service provided coverage to nearby nations to Ainslie - through Ainslie - to news bulletins in a variety of languages. The provision of foreign language news as broadcast elsewhere was a compromise, as negotiations between the Federal Government and the state-funded broadcaster had been underway for five years for the provision of Ahnslen news bulletins in foreign languages.

After the Baetylus event, programming continued and the news service was expanded to include non-Gaelitic languages as well. This was made possible through additional funding provided by the Federal Government in the wake of the Baetylus event.

Services
FLIS News is available on radio throughout most of Ainslie, as well as through television. Since 2020, Arindai has offered FLIS News' programming on its on-demand digital platform ALink, which has provided a web-based means to access foreign language content. This has proven to be popular not only amongst diaspora communities in Ainslie but further afield, especially in nations where similar services are not available.
