History of Mcarnald(WIP)
Gregory R.Keegan was a former president of Mcarnald and a party member of the Mcarnald Civil Party a pro socialist political party. He won the elections that were held in October 1966.His campaigning advocated an anti war, pro pacifist, pro socialist United States of Mcarnald.
He managed to win the election to the dismay of lobbyists ,big corporations, military high command, pro war advocate senators and various pro capitalist groups. To them he was an enemy No. 1 seeing that he promised in his campaign to reduce their influence which would be accomplished by nationalizing big corporations, reducing military budget, restrict military deployments, restrict sales of arms, military research and development programs needing to be approved by civilians, civilian oversight in military operations and command etc.
But these groups still believed that they could prevent any of these major changes by persuading the president with things like lobbying him with money, threats, running major campaigns against him to dwindle the public support without needing to resort to outright violence which could lead to instability or a potential civil war.
This seemed to do the trick for a while and looked like the president won't push for the massive policies he was campaigning for and they will instead see minor changes that will be negligible to affect their status quo.
The groups after a while went from being in panic mode to doing their normal and usual business as four months had passed since the Gregory R. Keegan won the election and his pro socialist party came in power and their was seemingly no attempt by the pro socialist Mcarnald Civil party to push for a massive change in sight to flip the state's system a complete 180° than the established norm.
It was believed by the groups that at this point there would be no more problems by the Mcarnald Civil party and that their lobbying attempts had worked to sway them enough to not push for a massive change and they only expected a few non negligible changes that the party would push for to show the masses that they did something that they promised in their pre election campaign and goals.
But five months after the election in early March president Gregory R. Keegan and his Mcarnald Civil party announced and proposed a new bill which set full panic mode in the groups as it was not a minor changes one it was instead the full blown changes that he was advocating for in his previous election campaigns and rallies.Their four months of lobbying had failed to stop Gregory R. Keegan for pushing for the changes that would threaten their status quo and once again he was put on their radar as their No. 1 threat that possess too big of a danger and needed to be dealt with effective immediately.
This resulted in the military and a few pro war advocate senators to orchestrate an event which later became known as "The Coup D'etat of 1967".
On 17:23 PM 21st March 1967 the coup d'etat had began to remove Gregory R. Keegan and Mcarnald Civil party from power and establish a new government with the backing of the military.
The operation was spearheaded by the operatives of the special forces branch called "Airborne Eagle (ABE)" with direct support from ground force and air force assets and personnel with indirect support from naval force assets and personnel.
The Airforce,Naval Force and Ground Force assets like AWACS, mobile electromagnetic warfare assets,Naval AWACS etc. shut down communications channels across the nation mainly centred at the capital and other major cities with government presence. Then among the confusion platoons of "Airborne Eagle(ABE)" special forces operatives swiftly raided multiple government institutions with help of light attack helicopters.
The ground forces then quickly moved in on the capital and blocked the paths leading to the capital to stop potential loyalist reinforcement from coming in and dispatched reserve infantry to reinforce the "Airborne Eagle (ABE)" and provide more manpower and firepower support.
The Airforce provided close air support and a bird's eye view of the entire area. The Navy provided indirect fire support and help blockade coastal areas.
The United Protection Bureau(UPB) and law enforcement agencies tried to put up a last stand but failed to do so as they were overwhelmed by heavy firepower of military forces.
After this Gregory R. Keegan and other were apprehended and took them to custody. After the successful coup d'etat Senator David S. Koonce announced the revolution and Gregory R. Keegan as an enemy of state declared a new era for Mcarnald in which it won't be run rampant by people like him.
People were supportive of the new government as it was supported by the military which was respected by the people at that time and patriotism was high.
President Gregory R. Keegan was trailed by the new government and sentenced to life imprisonment where he died 3 years later in 1970.He was one of the lucky ones as he was too popular to be sentenced to death even by the military. His other party members were sentenced to death.
This began a new period in the history of Mcarnald which remains still to the current day.
The 6/7 attacks were conducted by socialist insurgents from the newly formed terror group known as "The Civil Front".They were staunch supporters of the arrested Gregory R Keegan and deemed the trial to be a kangaroo court. They pledged to free him and his party members from detainment by any means necessary and gathered in arms.
On 6th of July,1967 around three months after the new government was formed a group of individuals of The Civil Front performed a terror attack on the main highway just on the outskirts of "Petrolia" and drove away from the seen along the highway. This attacked was later named 6/7 terror attack and this was the first engagement in the following seven years of armed conflict known as the "War on Reds".
The incident despite it's significance remains one of the least documented incidents in Mcarnald's modern history as the attack was conducted away from population centres. It only has a few photos and records of testimonies of a few of the survivors that were present on the highway at the time of the attack. The most iconic image of the attack is the one shown on the first which was taken by a photographer named "Sam Todd" who initially came to the area to photograph the nature and wildlife of the area.
As the socialist insurgents drove away the authorities were immediately contacted and informed of the situation which had taken place on the location.
Within 5 minutes of the emergency two military armoured personnel carriers arrived at the location followed by other emergency response personnel like ambulances, fire fighters, police etc. After 8 minutes the first police helicopter had arrived and spotted a car matching the description driving along the highway and a chase had began.12 minutes after the emergency report military attack helicopter from a nearby airbase had arrived and chased the insurgents car and they were warned over loudspeakers to surrender to the authorities but the car didn't slow down at all.At 15 minutes the order was given to neutralize the threat and the attack helicopter fired a missile at the car causing an explosion which killed all the people that were inside the car immediately on impact.
After this the new group "The Civil Front" took responsibility for the attack and stated it will do more until presidency is returned to Gregory R Keegan or until last of their terrorist organisation members die.
In this attack seven innocent civilians were killed and two cars were blown off completely due to a Rocket Propelled Grenade launcher(RPG-7).The after reports of the incidents and testimonies shows that five insurgents were involved in the attack and all died in the retaliatory strike by the military forces.
Due to this incidents the government hours after the 6/7 attacks issued a new order which stated that "No individual except authorised personnel will be allowed to carry firearms of any kind temporarily until the crisis is over or a new order is issued."People were ordered to give away their firearms to the authorities and sale of them was banned so terrorist groups can't get hand on weapons easily.Anyone who declined to give away their weapons willingly or was found hiding a firearm was immediately detained and considered a member of "The Civil Front" unless proven innocent.
Two days after the 6/7 terror attacks the Founding Governor David S Koonce on the United States of Mcarnald (OOC information: Mcarnald was called The Republic of Mcarnald before the coup d'etat of 1967) to give condolences to the people who were victims of the attacks and then gave a speech televised on television and radio accross the nation.Following is a small snippet of the entire speech were he officially declares the "War on Reds":
"Fellow countrymen of Mcarnald the reds have committed a grave offence against the spirit of the nation.I once again ask for forgiveness to allow such a stain on the nation. This proves that these reds from the start wanted nothing less than to cripple the nation but just like countless before the sons and daughters of Mcarnald will strike and restore the balance and stability.I vow to not rest until every single of those red's blood drop spills from their body.We will fight this threat until the last of our red, white and blue blood drops remains within us.Hereby I officially declare this war against the red threat for the betterment and safety of the nation.May the national spirit hold Mcarnald through!!!"
Mins after this speech was delivered a much more official declaration of war was released by the government against the "Red Threat" and it was written that those insurgents who surrendered early will be spared and treated accordingly to the international standard for prisoners of wars.If any insurgents that doesn't surrender instead tries to resist and fight against the authorities will be treated as a war criminal and they will be treated and punished accordingly.Whisteblowers will be rewarded a handsome cash prize, relaxed and reduced sentences if any depending upon their list of crimes. There will be severe consequences if the information was false. These were done to reduce morale of the insurgents and maximize their chances to surrender themselves and whistle blow any key information.
This worked very well initially as many people who were not radically ideologically motivated started themselves in to the authorities and gave useful information about their area which led to complete annihilation of "The Civil Front" from some places and weakened their position even more against the authorities.
Due to this initial success there were no offensive or terror operations for the reminder of 1967.Authorities operation became slow in early 1968 and came to a stalemate in mid of 1968 due to the remaining insurgents being more ideologically motivated to fight for a cause they saw as just and mainly due to the "The Civil Front" leadership managing to structure and train their forces to become a more organised guerrilla force instead of ragtag teams of maniacs running around.
They reformed the structure so that there was on head of operations per region and they know nothing about the other head of operations of regions outside their jurisdiction so as to decrease the amount of damage that can be done to their operations by potential whistleblowing or leaks. They all answered instead to the main leadership who sort of worked as a middle man between the various head of operations. They managed to even organise their low ranks grunts into forming basic firefight teams.
Though they still stood no chance of winning against the authorities in a direct firefight or conventional war. They like any other guerrilla forces instead engaged in unconventional warfare tactics because they knew it that taking control of the entire nation was impossible so they focused more on getting the political win and inflict enough damage to the convince the government to sit down and talk with them to negotiate some form of deal.
Hence there main element of power was blending in the normal population and conducting terror attacks in populated areas to gain attention and attack the psychology of the masses to force the government onto the negotiating table with them to discuss terms.
They even managed to force hotels, apartments and houses to harbour with a mix of threat, bribery and brain washing making it easier for them to stay in the city without the authorities getting suspicious on their activities until it was too late.
The terrorist were able to conduct various guerrilla and terror attack operations in urban centers.Although all of these were massive failures militarily always resulting minimum or no casualties to the authorities forces while all of the guerrilla forces that conducted the attacks always lost all members in all of the attacks. The chaos was enough to fuel "The Civil Front" slowly towards a political victory.
The government couldn't do much against these types of attacks other than a few busts here and there occasionally. They banned news outlets from showing or covering any of these attacks and only show good news regarding government forces victory to reduce the spread of red propaganda to the nation masses and be only contained within a small zone.
This middle phase of the armed conflict was the slowest as the guerrilla forces only did small scale attacks more so for propaganda then military objectives as any confrontation with the military will lead in their immediate annihilation by the government forces.
While they lacked military power the government forces had to slowly and deliberately clear terrorist hideouts region by region, city by city, building by building and room by room which was a very slow process but it was the only method they had unless they wanted to destroy each city to the ground by shelling it.
They had to implement martial law in a specific region then rat out the hidden guerrillas among the population. While progress may have been slow it was effective and progress was begin made slowly to remove the red threat across the nation to nothing but a past fairly tale. This type of warfare made Mcarnald forces excel at urban warfare. This phase alone is the reason the war lasted for almost seven years instead of a couple of months to a year or two. This slowest period of the warfare lasted from mid 1968 to late 1973.
By mid-late 1973 "The Civil Front" had lost control over the ability to conduct guerrilla operations in majority of the nation and only remained in a few spots where they were still somewhat active according to the intelligence reports. They had lost majority of their man power and couldn't recruit more ideologically motivated people to maintain a force.
In late 1973 "The Civil Front" was getting dismantled left and right as entire fire teams and even their regional head of operations were surrendering themselves to the authorities on masses to avoid being treated like a war criminal during future trials.
The only remaining force "The Civil Front" had was a 400 insurgent strong battalion of their most elite guerrillas known as "The Blue Caps" by Mcarnald authorities as they wore a distinctive blue coloured hat.As "The Civil Front" had been cleared from population settlements they put up a last stand against the Mcarnald military forces on the place known as "Height Valley" against an onslaught of the combined arms operation forces of Mcarnald military forces.
The intense fighting lasted for almost 3 hours as Mcarnald military assaulted the last enemy bastion with heavy firepower and support.Meanwhile the ideologically motivated insurgents fought till the last of their 400 men and the leadership was found dead due to self inflicted shot as stated by the military reports.
Then the Mcarnald soldiers raised the Mcarnald flag over the former insurgent encampment in joy of victory as they had finally won the armed conflict against the red threat.
1 hour after the last battle of "Height Valley",Founding Governor David S Koonce came live on Television again and delivered a speech to the nation regarding the red threat's annihilation and requesting a 2 min moment of silence for the men who sacrificed their lives for this cause greater than themselves and the spirit of the people who endured through this armed conflict. The joyous news spread across the entire nation immediately and people celebrated the end of the conflict.
This incident also birthed a new legislation in which the types of weapon people can buy without a gun licence and outright illegalization of certain types of firearms was implemented.Machine guns, snipers, Full auto assault rifles, marksman rifles were outright banned and anything above a standard pistol required permit from the local police chief so dangerous individuals can't get hand on powerful weapons easily.
