As of 10 a.m., Tuesday morning, October 8th, Robert Saleh, Head Coach of the New York Jets, has been relieved of his duties.

The question is why? Why would you fire your Head Coach not even halfway through the season? Well, with mostly everything relating to the Jets, it’s because of dysfunction at the highest levels in this cursed organization.

Plain and simple: he’s a fall guy. Saleh signed away his rights to this team on January 23rd, 2023 when he hired Nathaniel Hackett as Offensive Coordinator of the New York Jets. At this time, the Jets were trying to flooze Aaron Rodgers over to their camp, and Nathaniel Hackett was an obvious hire choice to help persuade Rodgers over. Heck, Hackett and Rodgers were friends in Green Bay, and they both were still really good friends later on. The catch is that after his tenure in Green Bay, he went on to be the Head Coach the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos sucked. Hackett’s marquee trade, QB Russell Wilson, floundered out, and the Broncos went 5-12. (With a 16-9 L to the Jets!) Not that his job was that impressive at Green Bay, having been heavily carried by Matt LaFleur, Rodgers, Davante Adams, and a very talented Green Bay defense. Even before Green Bay, he spent 4 years (15-16, 18-19) at Jacksonville, accumulating a record of 19-45, and leading an offense that never put up positive net points while with the Jaguars. So this hire made absolutely no sense other than wooing Rodgers over.

This was proven in the 2023 season, as the New York Jets offense was absolutely horrid. Rodgers was injured on the 4th offensive play from scrimmage to start the season, bringing in benched and disgraced young Quarterback Zach Wilson, who was previously ousted out of the QB position the year prior due to a 10-3 L to the Patriots, which could have been the worst offensive showing not from the state of Iowa in football history. Early on in 2023, however, Wilson accumulated a record of 4-3 with wins over pretty decent teams like Buffalo and Philadelphia, until a disgusting performance on Monday Night Football vs. an offensively horrid and defensively inept Chargers team in week 9 and a hard L to another awful team in the Raiders in week 10, and eventually a 32-6 dismantling at the hands of the Buffalo Bills lead to Wilson being ousted (again) for Tim Boyle, who eventually lost to the Dolphins the next week on Amazon Prime 34-13, that game being popularized by a Hail Mary pick six. (“Fail Mary”, it has its own Wiki page right next to the “Buttfumble” of 2012.) 2023 ended with Chris Streveler leading the offense to 3-7 to end the season.

This once 4-3 team finished 7-10, yet again another season filled with QB controversy, an almost explicit offense, and dysfunction at all levels. Yet, the Jets office fed the fans lies. Lies of a promising season with Aaron Rodgers. Lies that this team will break the “Same Old Jets” moniker. The same lies they fed us the year before. Did they actually change the game plan? No. It was off the basis of “well, Rodgers was hurt last year. It doesn’t count.” and I ate it up. A lot of Jets fans did. You know what? It seemed like they were right at first. In week 3 on Thursday Night, the Jets notched their first win vs. the Patriots at home since 2015, a 24-3 smackdown that never felt close. The offense clicked. The defense clicked. All the Jets had to do was to beat the floundering Broncos. Show the fans- and the league- that no, this was not the same old Jets. That this team really was different!

They lost 10-9. One of the worst games I had ever watched. In what looked like a classic Zach Wilson game, the defense played lights out only for the offense to somehow do less than nothing against a subpar Denver defense. Next week? 3 Rodgers interceptions leading to a 23-17 L to the honestly impressive Vikings. But the Jets should have won that game. Rodgers went 29/54 with 3 ints & 2 TD, laying an absolute egg finishing off what could have been the winning drive with the third interception of the game right at the goalline. There was nobody to blame for this except Rodgers and Hackett. Rodgers needed a fall guy. And because this is the Jets and we need to stir controversy, the Jets told Saleh to kick it with still 11 games left in the season and the AFC East lead on the line next week vs. Buffalo. There was no need for this other than covering for Rodgers and Hackett. Hackett should have been fired along with Saleh. But instead, he stays with his boy Rodgers while they punt (literally and figuratively) away another season.

The Jets will never be a serious organization. The Jets haven’t made the playoffs since 2010, only having a single season over .500 since (2015). They haven’t won nor made the Super Bowl since 1968. And yet they make the same mistakes, hilariously buttfumbling year in, year out, while the fans watch on as this cesspool of a football team makes the most obviously wrong decisions year in, year out, letting coaches like Adam Gase, and now Rodgers, come in with unchecked power, eventually to leave in disgrace after yet another handful of losing seasons. Same old Jets. Same old Jets. Same old damned Jets.
