The Kravatoan Public Gym System

History

The Public Gym System can trace its origins to Kravatoan culture's attitude towards fitness. Since the common adaptation of Chasotan physical traditions such as Abiaminos, prayers which utilized physical exercise to honor Tcha, physical fitness and mastery of one's body has been important in Kravatoan culture. In medieval history, kings such as Edriko of Hevla created Kepos, major buildings within cities in which one could run and train strength. Usually, these Kepos were paid for by dukes, kings, and local leadership, and kept by Tchazodan authorities as semi-religious buildings. The Kepo Hital in Sveto Barto, financed by Edriko of Hevla, was one of the largest and seen as a mark of Edriko's devotion and Hevla's wealth.

The First and Second Kingdoms greatly expanded this system, with a Kepo being a feature of most towns as they spent to increase what was seen as a mark of prosperity and prestige. During Doman rule, most Kepos were maintained by the Tchazodan Church as houses of worship, which prevented them from being seized and used for other purposes by the Domans. After eventual liberation and the creation of the Kravatoan government, there were ideas in rei-investing in many degraded Kepos across the nation's major cities. However, other economic priorities eliminated the plan, and soon apart from major Kepos such as the Sveto Timo Kepo in Tuxernobli, Kepo Hital in Sveto Barto, and other notables were changed for other uses. Private gym and athletic culture evolved across Kravato over the next decades in the 1840s to the end of the 1890s.

In the 1890s, there was a resurgence of pride in Kravato's identity before Doman rule and the Kepos still intact such as Sveto Timo and Kepo Hital were seen as monuments to that age. Interest in fitness spiked and suddenly several cities such as Sapli, Mava Lana, and Drava put forth efforts to restore their Kepos, often in secularly rather than with Tchazoda in mind. Athletic culture, already prevalent in Kravato's school systems was continued by the new Kepos that were now owned by the government.

In the 1920s and 1930s, the Kravatoan Army began to construct fitness facilities within already owned land in major cities with the aim of preparing regular citizens for war, as it was known to be coming. These facilities were expanded at the start of the Imperial War, and many Kravatoan recruits went through these municipal systems rather than camps in the country. Thousands of Kravatoans who never fought were put in shape by these facilities in case invasion was to come, and new high standards created for the average Kravatoan's needed physical health as well. Post-war, the Kravatoan population was much more fitness and gym-experienced, and these facilities within cities were also less necessary.

In 1950, the Public Gym Program was created by Chaliseph Fetarlo Mastis as a response to peaked interest in Kepos, need for gyms across cities, and a solution for how to keep Kravatoans in shape in case war would ever again threaten its independence. It was officialized by the Forum in 1951 and has existed under the command of the Ministry of Health.

Standards and Logistics

Standards: WIP

Logistics
Expenses for gyms are covered by the Ministry of Health's fund, and delegated across states by the size of the population the gym is created to serve. Central Tuxernobli District, the most populated sector, receives the highest allotment, and generally gyms that serve multiple counties have the lowest. Districts are charged with partial upkeep of gym in taxes, which is sometimes used varying on state to pay for upgrades and expansions of gyms. For this reason, gym qualities vary vastly based on location.
