War Against the Dominion

Long before the war, during the rise of the New Ayleid Empire in Firsthold, Orsinium forces secured Cloudrest and made it a haven for political enemies of the Aldmeri Dominion. Once the Aldmeri Dominion grew into a powerful alliance, and wanting to completely unite Summerset, a land dispute over Cloudrest's ownership started.
The Aldmeri Dominion achieved an alliance with Akaviri nations, the classic opponents of the Republic. Orsinium was a member of the Republic since its rise. This drove a further rift between the two nations. The War of Orcish Succession made things worse, since the Aldmeri Dominion sided with first Robag and then Burk. It was made clear that the Dominion greatly desired Cloudrest, and each time an offer for it was made, the offer was rejected. King Cyreil of the Elves' dream of a unified Summerset was halted.

War started by the Aldmeri Dominion when they invaded Cloudrest. Armies from Swelia made the bulk of the invasion force, with Falmer warriors supporting NAE and Swelian troops. Allies from the Republic, Aetheriun, and Balfiera joins Orsinium's defense. The War Against the Dominion has begun. Orsinium had an army invade Swelia and allied forces invade several major cities of the New Ayleid Empire all at once. A ceasefire for negotiations at an Atmoran landsmeet was made. For some time the war was practically stopped with an exception to the Orcish invasion at Swelia. The result of the Landsmeet was Atmora joining the war on Orsinium's side, the orcish invasion of Swelia ended, Swelia and its armies mysteriously collapsed, and the restarting of the sieges in Summerset. Atmora then invaded the remaining unbesieged cities on the main Summerset Isle. Alinor quickly fell after the end of the ceasefire, and soon after Moarmer rebels rose up in Pyandonea, funded secretly by Orsinium. Queen Kinewe was executed by the Atmoran Grand Monarch, and King Cyreil fell in battle against Warchief Thar at the climax of Sunhold. The cities Atmora were besieging fell, though a few Dominion holdouts remain. Though Pyandonea is still in a state of civil war, the last Thalmor holdout of Firsthold fell, and with it the declaration of the war's end. The war started as an effort to end Republican influence in Thalmor Summerset, just for the Republic to secure dominance in the region at the war's end.
