The Panamanian Navy (Marina de Panama) is the Panama Coalition’s naval warfare force. The Panamanian Navy is the maritime branch of the Panamanian Defense Forces. It is one of the most recent active naval forces and also one of the most modern in the world. Its beginning dates from the navy of Gran Colombia in 1811. In the last decade of the 20th century, the US Navy, due to the policy of "American First" and the economic crisis, began a retreat towards the continental territory. Faced with the new world scenario, the protection of the Panamanian merchant fleet, which was already the 3rd most important in the world in the 90' was of great interest. This is why great nations such as the United States of America II and Le France, promote the Panama Coalition to develop a navy capable of complementing and even replacing tasks of the Royal Navy and the US Navy around the world.

The Panamanian Navy has played a decisive role in the history of the current Federal Republic, particularly in the logistical and defensive fields since 1994. Among the great achievements of the Navy are the protection of international trade routes worldwide and the protection of the Merchant Fleet, currently the largest in the world. The Panamanian Navy, hand in hand with the great marine powers such as the US Navy and NATO, is one of the most powerful in the world in the 21st century and is currently a naval force of world reference.

The navy establishment is composed of two type commands, The Fleet (Marina de Panamá) and Panamanian Coalition Marine Corps (PCMC).The role of the Panamanian Navy is to protect the Panama Coalition’s interests at home and abroad, executing the foreign and defence policies of the Government through the exercise of military effect, diplomatic activities and other activities in support of these objectives. These objectives are delivered via a number of core capabilities (missions).

Mission

Navy's missions:

  1. Support to the Coast Guard and the Airnaval National Service (SENAN) for the protection of the territorial sea borders.

  2. Act to deter or defeat any threats or aggression against the territory, people or maritime interests of Panama Coalition, both in war and peace.

  3. Provision of five fleets of global scale maritime and Task Force groups with the Navy Air Arm.

  4. Delivery of the Panama Coalition Marines, Commandos and army forces.

  5. Maintenance of standing patrol commitments.

  6. Provision of mine counter measures capability to Panama Coalition and allied commitments.

  7. Provision of hydrographic and meteorological services deployable worldwide.

  8. Protection of Panama Coalition and allies Exclusive Economic Zone.

  9. Provide maritime assistance (including disaster relief) in Panama Coalition's maritime neighbourhood, Region, allies and friends nations.

  10. Protect the international trade routes used by the Merchant Fleet of the Panama Coalition and its cargo ships.

Organization

Diagram detailing the organizational structure of the Navy

The senior headquarters of the Department of the Navy, Headquarters Navy (HN) consists of two staffs in the Defense Minister: the Office of the Secretary of the Navy and the Navy Staff. These are headed by the Panama Coalition Secretary of the Navy and the Chief of Staff of the Panama Coalition Navy. The Chief of Navy Staff is a 4-star Fleet Admiral, and is subordinate to the Joint Chief of Staff Commander of the Armed Forces, who in turn follows the orders of the Supreme Federal President. The Navy Headquarters is in Barranquilla in the Federal State of Bolivar.

AN/SEQ-3 Laser Weapon System: The LaWS is a ship-defense system that engaged an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV or drone) and small-boat attacker. LaWS uses an infrared beam from a solid-state laser array which can be tuned to high output to destroy the target or low output to warn or cripple the sensors of a target. The LaWS is designed to be used against low-end asymmetric threats. Scalable power levels allow it to be used on low-power to dazzle a person's eye to non-lethally make them turn away from a threatening posture, and increase to 30 thousand watts (30 kW) to fry sensors, burn out motors, and detonate explosive materials. Against a vital point on small UAVs, one can be shot down in as little as two seconds. When facing small boats, the laser would target a craft's motor to disable it and make it "dead in the water," then repeating this against others in rapid succession, requiring only a few seconds of firing per boat. Targeting the platform is more effective than individual crewmembers, although the LaWS is accurate enough to target explosive rockets if on board, whose detonations could kill the operators. Against a larger aircraft like a helicopter, LaWS can burn through some vital components to cause it to fall and crash

Soryu Class is widely recognised as one of the world’s best submarines and often acknowledged to be the world’s most advanced, quietest, conventionally powered submarine. It is a air-independent propulsion submarine allowing them to stay submerged for longer periods of time. Lithium-ion batteries have almost double the electric storage capacity of traditional lead-acid batteries, and by not only replacing them in the existing battery storage areas but adding to the already large battery capacity by also filling the huge space (several hundred tons displacement) inside the hull previously occupied by the AIP Stirling engines and their fuel tanks with these new batteries, the amount of (more powerful) batteries carried overall is massive. This has improved the underwater endurance significantly and is felt will be an advantage over the slow recharge capability of the AIP system. This accomplishing a long-sought capability designed to give the submarines an extra acoustic edge during sensitive operations and combat operations.

This ship carries a next-generation active electronically scanned array radar system named Cobra King. The Cobra King system included two AESA radar arrays, one in the S band and one X band, that are both controlled via a common operations control station. The S Band array is used for scanning large volumes of sky for objects and for tracking missiles in flight, while the X band array is used for zeroing in on small hard to detect objects like reentry vehicles, missile interceptors, or even tiny satellites. Cobra King can also track well over a thousand targets using both bands at range of 2.000-4.000 kms.
