National Identification Card & Passport | 中華民國國民身分證及中華民國護照

MEMO
MINISTRY OF THE INTERIOR
RESTORATION OF CHINESE CITIZENSHIP TO ALL CHINESE NATIONALS
Effective today, the citizenship of Chinese Nationals previously residing in the Chinese territories previously occupied by Communist Rebels (Mainland China/Sinkiang/Tibet), Mongolian separatists (Outer Mongolia), Russian imperialists (Tannu Tuva/Outer Manchuria), etc., has officially been restored.

As of the 106th Year of the Republic, the Ministry of the Interior has announced the promulgation of new identification cards for all Chinese Nationals with household registration (i.e., permanent residency) within the territory of the Chinese Republic.
Chinese Nationals without household registration (i.e., Overseas Chinese Nationals with only residency in foreign states) are eligible for Chinese passports, but not identification cards.

The Ministry of the Interior has also unveiled the design of the new Chinese passport, which will begin issuance effective immediately to all persons with Chinese descent. Chinese descent is defined as persons who are born within the territory of the Chinese Republic and their descendants, regardless of place of birth. According to the Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission, Chinese descent also includes ethnic minorities and their descendants (i.e., Mongolians and Tibetans) as these minorities are also indigenous to China.
The Chinese Republic passport formerly in use in the Free Area of the Chinese Republic formerly bore the word "TAIWAN" beneath the National Emblem to reflect its then de facto administrative area. (Note that Chinese Nationals residing in the former Free Area/Taiwan Area, now the "Taiwan SAR" may continue to use the previous version without interruption).
With the successful reunification of China, the word "TAIWAN" has now been removed to reflect that the Chinese Republic passport is now universal for Chinese Nationals across China.
Additionally, the redesign also recaptures the spirit of our national writing system in its traditional format and text direction, as part of a collaboration between the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Culture.
