Vote Against GA resolution Repeal: Reproductive Freedoms

General Assembly Vote Recommendation

Part of the Information for WA Voters program

Resolution at Vote: Repeal: Reproductive Freedoms
Vote Recommendation: Against

Resolution Analysis
The resolution in question, Reproductive Freedoms, is a hard fought compromise--stemming from a vicious debate no one wishes to repeat--on one of the most contentious issues with many hoping it was stronger in their direction.

This repeal makes assumptions, overlooks opportunities for governments to regulate abortion, and paints a misleading picture of dystopias with commonplace procedure and genocidal implementation. While the repeal cites existing law that would further protect women's rights in this regard, it ought to remember the other laws that would curtail many of the ramifications it points out. This is fearmongering.

The author admits nations will disregard the resolution but comply with the law. The resolution offers allowances to nations thus defeating the argument the resolution is too extreme. Those repealing ought to recognize a balance that provides nations with leeway to navigate this issue while respecting essential rights and giving room and voice to those opposed. Those opposed recognize it.

For these reasons, the Ministry of World Assembly Affairs recommends a vote against this repeal.
