Institute Outpost and Bases

A-02

Before the Great War, the bunker was used as a secret base of operation for the Defense Intelligence Agency as can be seen written on the floor in the main hall. It was later discovered by the Railroad, who repurposed it as their headquarters. They also uncovered the Predictive Analytic Machine, a pre-War advanced robot designed to predict the future with extreme precision and accuracy, using the most complex formulas, methods, and algorithms based on the data provided.
It was not long before the Railroad's enemy, the Institute, discovered the location. Synths were later dispatched to wipe out the Railroad, forcing them to relocate to the Old North Church, leaving the bunker in the hands of the Institute.

Federal surveillance center K-21B was a surveillance facility used by the government before the Great War. The bunker was also a contingency plan, and would serve as an outpost for government surveillance workers who were meant to continue their work well after the bombs fell. Now in use by the Institute to survey the Commonwealth and beyond that with the use of satellites.

C-19

After the Institute took over Vault 88, they realized it was incomplete. Only the main doors and security rooms were operational. Most would consider this a bust and leave, but the Institute considered this a rare opportunity. The reasources, equipment and supplies were all already there, so the Institute began to build their own vault. So Outpost C-19 was created. It's the main Institute research on the glowing sea and southern Commonwealth.

D-33

Vault 81 is unlike almost any other known vault in the Commonwealth, in that it still contains sane and active dwellers. The old overseer's terminal (which is stored in the generator room) makes a heavy implication that this success is not due to them having a more benign experiment to conduct (like with Vault 101), but rather because the original overseer actively sabotaged Vault-Tec's original mandate by refusing to carry out the initial experiments. Due to its medical knowledge, it is a prized base of the Institute.

E-55

Vault 112 was one of the last to be constructed. The construction started in November 2068, and finished in June 2074. It was intended for only 85 occupants, suspended in a virtual reality world for the indefinite duration of the vault's experiment. The vault was built to house and tend to the needs of its overseer, Dr. Stanislaus Braun, creator of the Garden of Eden Creation Kit. Within it, Braun installed a virtual reality simulator and cryogenics system, initially containing several simulated utopias, the last of which being the Tranquility Lane simulation. The system should have permitted a select few to live a 'perfect life' virtually, if not practically, forever.

F-77

Vault 77 is one of the vault series of fallout shelters developed by Vault-Tec. It main purpose was to see what would happen if they left one guy in it alone, with only a box of puppets to keep him company.
