The Commonwealth Times - October 2017

Monthly Commonwealth Highlights
This month we've been advancing at a scary pace (yes, the halloween pun was necessary). The pebble that was tossed in the water back at the start of the year is finally starting to ripple large enough to be noticable all around. With our alliances and members growing in power and influence, we're starting to have people line up to join us.

Congressional Updates

The CC (Commonwealth Congress) has recently passed a vote on all of our old alliances prior to this month and which ones we should keep. The votes were on a scale of 0-10, with each representative casting their personal opinion on the basis of our benefit in the weight of the cost to us in each alliance. This is in order to maintain strong bonds and keep the affiliations that the leadership believes will best benefit the Commonwealth.

League of Defenders | 3.83 | Terminate
Federation of Greater Germanic Republics| 6.5 | Sustain (Possible Renegotiation)
The Holy Reich of Bunicken| 8.83 | Sustain
Canterbury | 10.83 | Sustain
Socialist Union of Eurasia | 8.5 | Sustain
Bus Stop | 10.83 | Sustain
Capricornarius | 0 | Terminate
Avadam Inn | 1 | Terminate

In other news, Canterbury has rejoined The Commonwealth. If you don't know the (full) story, here's a TL:DR Version.

Canterbury was once a member of SCUT, but they left because of some domestic strife. This has since boiled over into a full-blown revolution. Now, with the new regime in power, membership in SCUT is once again favored and the Dominion of Canterbury is once more a part of The Commonwealth. Their current representatives are New Legland & Kyssers.

Social Spotlight
This month's featured interviews are with Langor empire of Union of Confederate Regions and Kyssers of Canterbury

The Commonwealth Times
When did your region first get involved with the SCUT?
Langor Empire
We first met during the virtue enforcement mission in Avlonia.
The Commonwealth Times
What is your role in your region/organization?
Langor Empire
Emperor of the Conventium, the region's supreme leader.
The Commonwealth Times
What is your opinion on the way the Commonwealth functions?
Langor Empire
The SCUT is a curious entity; successful integrational projects are rare, and we are interested in the organization's experience.
The Commonwealth Times
Have you participated in any declassified major military operations with the SCUT?
Langor Empire
No.
The Commonwealth Times
How involved are you and what do you plan to do in conjunction with the SCUT?
Langor Empire
As involved as interregional climate requires.
The Commonwealth Times
What can you tell us about the Yukki Treaty?
Langor Empire
The Treaty of Yukki (officially the Partnership for the Advancement of Virtue) an alliance that, at this time, includes the UCR, Dawn and Kaiserreich; we consider interregional cooperation and coprosperity a necessity even for great powers, and desire to spread the light of civilization to the most distant corners of the NS World.
The Commonwealth Times
How does your region plan to deal with the conflict in Bunicken
Langor Empire
The Conventium would prefer to remain neutral. However, if the circumstances force us to choose sides, we will support Kaiserreich, a Yukki member.

The Commonwealth Times
When did your region first get involved with SCUT?
KYSsers
Our region first got involved with SCUT a while ago. Our founder, The Liberty Coalition (now deleted) got us into SCUT with no warning around June 10th. We left a little while later by vote. Two weeks ago, we joined back.
The Commonwealth Times
What are some highlights of your experience, so far?
KYSsers
We (Canterbury) have not been in SCUT for too long now, but as allies some highlights have been detagging Starclan from the Black Hawks and coordinating with SCUT in N-Day.
The Commonwealth Times
What do you think of the other CC representatives?
KYSsers
I have not been involved with the other CC representatives, but from what I've seen they're all pretty nice and helpful.
The Commonwealth Times
What are some major policy votes that you've made?
KYSsers
So far, I have not made any major policy votes, but look forward to making them in the future.
The Commonwealth Times
Who do you think is the biggest threat to the SCUT?
KYSsers
As we're relatively new to SCUT, I am not sure of what is the biggest threat, but I think some could be Hispanyo and Sovietzkia, as they have had a negative relationship with SCUT and continue to.
The Commonwealth Times
What is your take on the events that recently occured in Canterbury?
KYSsers
Recent events in Canterbury have been both good and bad. After a massive regional government overhaul performed by me, New Legland, Mayo and Other Condiments, and Chundukertopia, The Liberty Coalition was overthrown as founder and we instated a puppet. Our region has become less corrupt and more democratic. We have gotten rid of useless clauses in our constitution made by The Liberty Coalition, and rejoined SCUT. Some bad things, however, are The Liberty Coalition getting deleted, his puppets enraging the mods, and almost causing a delete-on-sight order, Keklandes getting deleted, and relative unrest in Canterbury.

News Around the Multiverse

In The Holy Reich of Bunicken, a conflict sparked early in the month that reached a universal level. The Chancellor of The Reich was declared as an enemy of the state by Kaiserreich and his position jeopardized the relationship between the two powers. There was a divide amongst the allies and citizens of Bunicken alike over whether the chancellor should be impeached or supported. The following is an official statement from the Commonwealth Congress:

Due to the allegiances and record of the current Chancellor of the Holy Reich of Bunicken, it is the belief of the Commonwealth Congress that he should be permitted to maintain his current position. His actions are such which pose no direct detriment to ourselves nor to the future of the relationship between The Reich and The Commonwealth. It is our belief that his continued holding of this position will only better the relationship between the two powers. With that being said, should this cause a war to ignite between Kaiserreich and Bunicken, The Commonwealth shall be forced to declare neutrality, as we are equally aligned with Bunicken as we are with Dawn and the Union of Confederate Regions, both of whom are cosigners of the Yukki Treaty with Kaiserreich. The Emperor would like to note that our ambassador corps is willing to act as a mediation party in this conflict, should the need arise.

The conflict was ended by the support that SCUT put behind the chancellor, which gave him a majority of support amongst citizens and allies of Bunicken, allowing him to maintain his position.

In other news, The SUE (The Socialist Union of Eurasia), a SCUT ally, has lost its historical homeland, The SAE (Socialist Alliance of Eurasia) to a raid. From what is public knowledge, the raid was a combined assault by a group of large militant forces, such as The Black Hawks & Osiris. The Commonwealth Congress has heard the appeals for help from The SUE's ambassador, Byzanthia & are considering all available options.

We are also planning & starting a multi-author, "World War Z" (The Book, not movie)-inspired super-entry that will have accounts from all around the Commonwealth during the Zombie Outbreak.

After years of peaceful cohabitation with the walkers in Commonwealth Special Administrative Zone 13 on Homelands, commonly known as Z0mb13, a cell of terrorists had been working to undo it all. Anarchy is a peaceful leader of his tribes who works for peace between the humanoids of The Commonwealth and the Walkers of Zone 13. However, the aptly-named Chaos - leader of a violent separatist movement in Zone 13, recently weaponized the virus, creating a strain that, unlike the strain found natrually in Zone 13, turns its victims into mindless monsters. It has been dubbed Strain X. With a total of 3 billion Commonwealth Citizens (including the terrorists) permanently infected with Strain X or dead, the total damage to the population of an estimated 4 quadrillion people was 0.075%. However, this was the largest domestic mobilization of the CDF in SCUT history as it required CDFNG teams to operate within each planet, while the greater CDF secured the trade lanes, spaceports, space stations, and planetary atmospheres from hostile invasion - either by terrorists, contaminated travelers, or foreign powers. What follows is a collection of aftermath interviews conducted by a team of investigators from the Commonwealth Congress in order to better understand how the outbreak spread and how the response was carried out.

Letters to the Editor

New Legland writes:
Here is a recap on the events of the Canterbury Civil War:

On September 18, a friend of mine (Mayo and Other Condiments) proposed that we overthrow our founder (The liberty coalition, he has been deleted). Kyssers and I had already thought about this, but had never put anything into motion. To be frank, The Liberty Coalition was corrupt. He would blatantly violate many laws in our poorly written constitution, he would change laws to suit his needs, and he would just abuse his power in general. We started "coordinating" (it wasn't really organized) our operation on Discord. We agreed to have Mayo and Other Condiments create the new Discord server, since The Liberty Coalition was the owner of the other one and have me found the new region with a puppet that would only be used when necessary, so no one would have infinite power. The plan was for us to eject every member of the region just before the update at 1:05 PM. Since we had school during the week, we had to wait until the weekend. However, during the week, I decided to banject Kyssers as a joke since the NS++ banhammer said that I didn't have enough influence to do so. Because of this, I lost most of my influence and we needed to change our plan. We decided to make Kyssers delegate since the WA Delegate doesn't expend as much influence when ejecting and because he had the most influence anyway. However, for reasons unknown to me, on the day we were going to destroy the region, the update time was moved up to 9:49 AM. Kyssers wasn't online at the time, so we had to reschedule for 12:18 AM that day. Since I wasn't willing to stay up that late, I went to sleep while Kyssers ejected everyone at around 11:40 PM. I woke up at around 2:00 AM to my joy to see Canterbury finally destroyed. On September 24, I refounded Canterbury with my puppet The new canterbury order Fast forward a few weeks with another refounding, and you arrive at Canterbury as it is today.

This is a fairly good summary of what happened in Canterbury's absense from the Commonwealth. It's a lot better that what we could've written since it's a direct account. Thanks New Legland
