Chancellor Election: Interview with Midland South States

El Fiji Grande: Let's begin the interview.

Currently, as the sole candidate for Chancellor (as far as I'm aware), what makes you qualified for the position?

Midland South States: The short answer is that I've done it before and also served as the second worst WAD only because I wasn't sure what I as being elected to.

Really, what I think the region tries to elect for chancellor is the local equivalent of a moderator.

Someone that polices the board while still being fairly balanced. I'm someone who stays predominantly balanced no matter the case. If I can't handle something I'll appoint someone who can arbitrate a dispute.

If elected I honestly don't plan to actively try and appoint justices unless something critical happens that can't be solved by myself. We've all seen how successful the last justice appointees were. Given the current state of affairs, I honestly do think that justices should only be actively recruited if there is an actual need for them.

To somewhat contradict my self, I also do think that the chancellor position does at the very least, need to appoint a justice immigration officer who would also serve as a chief justice should the need arise.

Keeping the office to a minimum, while moderating the board, and having the ability to expand in the midst of a constitutional crisis is what I think the modern regional chancellor position should be all about.

El Fiji Grande: I think, overall, I would agree with your assessment of the role of the Chancellor.

To what extent should the Chancellor assist the WA Delegate on matters of foreign affairs, and to what extent do you believe the WA Delegate should assist in internal affairs?

Additionally, besides trying your utmost to be fair, reasonable, just, and level-headed, does your campaign for the Chancellory have any official platform?

Midland South States: I think that predominantly the Chancellor should not have much to do with the execution of foreign affairs unless the WAD is on a prior informed LOA [Editor's note: Leave of Absence]. In my view the WAD is elected to represent the INWU internationally, not domestically.

Alternatively, the WAD shouldn't have much to with internal affairs. Yes, they should have RMB moderation powers, but they shouldn't really need to be focused internally, unless there is some sort of crisis unfolding.

I don't really have a platform, because I don't think anyone does. There's also the fact that I don't think there's anything that can really be achieved by the chancellors position that will really change the board. People are gonna be as active as they wanna be, and engagement is gonna be what it is. The chancellor can only do so much for activity when there's so many different timezones split between the denizens of our region, don't forget to add in that we all have lives outside of the board. It is what it is.

El Fiji Grande: I definitely feel that local RMB moderation is one of the most visible responsibilities of the Chancellor. That said, previous Chancellors - especially from the earlier days of our region - had an active hand in assisting the MoRP as well as promoting legislation in the NFA, and later in the Regional Council. Would you take on these responsibilities as Chancellor in addition to the primary role you've already discussed?
Midland South States: Naturally if there is a call for these types of actions, I would do so. I don't really foresee us needing anything like this in the interim, but I'll be ready to implement them should a good idea for legislation, or a requirement for new legislation, present itself.
El Fiji Grande: Fair enough. Going back to what you discussed as the primary role of the Chancellor - that of a local moderator of the RMB of sorts, could you describe the general principles behind how you would moderate the board. What is your view of post suppression, for example? Would you handle most conflicts via telegram with the nations involved or on the board itself?
