Cedoria and Kavagrad: Strong Leaders for a Strong Future: March 2018

Cedoria and Kavagrad
“Strong leaders for a strong future”.

In order to provide the citizens of The Leftist Assembly with a genuine opportunity to shape the future direction of their community in the coming months, Senators Cedoria and Kavagrad hereby announce their intention to run on a joint ticket for the positions of Secretary and Prime Minister, respectively.

Qualifications:

Comrade Cedoria has an extensive history in the government of The Leftist Assembly and its predecessor communities, serving as Secretary for two consecutive successful terms in the 3rd and 4th General Assemblies. During that time he presided over the formation of much of the region’s present legal and political structure that still endures to this day. He has since served as Senator, Justice, and various other government positions, as well as completing a variety of projects, including writing for the Red Star and completing the Regional History Project. He is one of the region’s three original founders and also served in government positions in both The Communist Region and the Democratic Socialist Union.

Senator Kavagrad has successfully served as Senator and Minister of Recruitment during these past few months. In that time, he has successfully drafted and passed the Senatorial Representation Act, making a significant change to the functioning of how Senators are elected. He has also presided over one of the region’s most successful recruitment campaigns, reaching a population which is greater than any point in TLA’s history. He will stay on as Minister of Recruitment if elected as Prime Minister, in order to continue and build on the enormous work he has already accomplished in such a short time.

Policies (Or why you should vote for us)

As part of our reform plan for the next few months, we the candidates offer the following proposals:

1. In response to a number of ‘Joke Proposals’ offered up to the General Assembly for legislation, the candidates propose a method of incorporating such legislation into a Joke Laws Factbook. While not legally binding, these laws will bring an aspect of humour and lightness to the region while also ensuring that the serious work of regional government can continue without joke proposals hampering that. The candidates both wish to reassure the region that they believe Joke Proposals have their place, and would like to consider offering a prize to the most creative/funny joke law promulgated during their term in office.

2) Both candidates endorse the idea of running a new edition of The Leftist Assembly’s Cultural Competition. In the past, this idea generated a flurry of creative design work that was then voted on. The symbols of our community belong to all and the candidates believe it is only just and fair that said symbols be designed and chosen democratically. A Minister will be appointed if we are elected to oversee the smooth functioning and running of these competitions.

3) The candidates wish to affirm their support of TLA’s unique status as a pan-leftist region, open to all leftists of varying creeds and philosophies. We affirm that we will oppose efforts and laws designed to restrict the rights and freedoms of different types of leftists who make this region their home.

4) Both candidates affirm their continuing support for an independent foreign policy, which emphasises cooperation with allies, the ability to be flexible and make our own best judgement and above all, preserve the integrity of the region’s independent politics and the autonomy of the it’s policy making processes.

5) The candidates also wish to announce that they will be conducting a new voluntary census of the region’s population. In the past this has been a great method to enable the region’s leaders to understand what kind of community this is and generate discussion about possible future areas of improvement. Looking at the results of the last efforts, the candidates would like to find ways to promote a more individually diverse polity in TLA, with more women and a broader international representation as possible targets.

6) The candidates will preserve and maintain the integrity of the Supreme Court and protect the vital role it plays in safeguarding our Constitution and interpreting the laws of the region.

7) The candidates also propose the creation of a General Assembly Code of Conduct, to better clarify the exact responsibilities of and restrictions on the GA, and affirm their continuing support for a strong GA.
